    Hi Money Fritter

Just an idea - why don't you try to plan your meals for the next week and buy only what you need for these. Write a shopping list - and don't stray from it. You may find that you can get a few meals from the freezer and cupboards. This is my challenge for the next week. I only need to buy some fresh veggies and a bit of fruit this week!

I also learned about setting a price book so that you can keep an eye on prices. When something is on offer you can check your price book to see if it worth stocking up. Just found this using google http://couponing.about.com/cs/aboutcouponing/a/pricebooks.htm

Planning is a really useful tool for moneysaving.

Boiled egg eh! mmmm - I'll have to have mine without soldiers!

  • Hello Again folks,

Just got back from shopping. Urg123, I followed your advice and planned my meals for the week. I already had some meals that I had frozen from last week. So my weekly budget was £30 (including £5 on cleaning stuff, etc). My shopping bill came to, wait for it £16.29.

So I have managed to save £13.71 this week. :j

As I mentioned in a previous post, I am going to add the savings up every month and then pay it off my debts. I will add it to my Signature so people can see how I am doing.

Right I have done my signature now minus the food saving bit, which i still need to put on. I have also used the snowball calculator, which was quite depressing. It says I will be DF in March 2016. However, that just includes the current payments I make, which are the minimum payments. So optimistic I can reduce this alot.

    Cheers

  • Right updated my Signature to include the shopping savings. Right, I think I can tick my original list off now.

    1) Start a money spending record system (diary).-Started
    2) Sort out my signature for my posts.-Done
    3) Examine ways of cutting back on things, particularly food budget.- Down branded on several things at supermarket and made huge savings. Also done meal plans and going to make more portions to freeze.
    4) Look and take up some of the great challenges on this website. -Started the 20p and £2 Challenge. Also starting the daily clicks challenge, once I get the guide from EasyLearner.

I might also consider doing the NSD challenge, but start next month, as I take pack lunches into work and have started to take a flask of coffee or tea in rather than spend lots of money in the coffee machine. Believe you me it adds up.

  • RE the coffee machine... can you suggest to your colleagues at work that you all put together to purchase a coffee machine such as the Senseo (I love mine)
then you can still have the fresh coffee hit for a fraction of the price of the machine at work!

  • Hi Bank_Of_Slate

I am a member of quidco, topcashback and cashbackkings as well as a few others. Although the above ones are were I have earned most of my money. I got casback for car insurance from topcashback, I also got cashback for switching my gas and electric on there as well. The rest of the cashback is on quidco and cashbackkings. That is for betting websites for matched betting. I also got some cashback for lovefilms free trial awhile back.

I am thinking about capping my gas and electric now as I watched Martin Lewis's programme on Channel 5 the other night and he said there is another predicted 20-30% rise in costs in Jan.

How will we cope. We need somebody to invent free energy. I am a zany scientist, :rotfl: but I am not really in that field, I am in pharmaceuticals.

  • No Bank_Of_Slate I have not joined them. Is freecycle were you can post things that you do not want, as well as get things off other people. I have got loads of books, I was thinking of selling some on e-bay or amazon to try and get some more money. Some have not even been read and are brand new. However, I think you have to pay tax, you have to declare it through the inland revenue don't you? I will have to look into it.

Freecycle is where you can post things that you don't want, there is also lots of things on offer from others!

With Ebay I think the tax comes in if you are earning over a certain amount on there.
look on the Ebay thread on here! http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?s=&daysprune=&f=40

  • Right whilst I am really keen and chomping at the bit I thought I would take up another challenge. I have joined the NSD september challenge. I know that there are only 10 days left, but when I am in work I hardly spend anything. So I am going for 5 NSD days for the remaining 10 days of sept 08.

    Wish me good luck
