My 2 in 1 (or 3 in 1) ones, were all feather & down too.
The ONLY synthetic duvet I've ever owned is my new 1 tog, which you can't get in natural so I had to get synthetic.
I've always bought good ones too, my last one was about £150, BUT I've always found eventually the little feathers start working their way out:mad:
The pure new wool duvet has a neater look on the bed too, not all puffy like feathers/down.0 -
mine have the 13 tog one and a thinner one for summer 7 tog i think?
stuffed away in bk of cupboard so can't check..
mine have had loads of new one's over the year's i find thay go bit thin and tatty looking..
mind you mine drag them round the house and dd spill's allsort's on there. much cheaper just to buy new one.
deeIgnore reality. There's nothing you can do about it.
I have done reading too!

Did they complain of being cold last winter? Were they uncomfortable with their bed clothes?
If not, perhaps don't worry.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
We have always had cheap synthetic ones in past and replaced every couple of years or so. Have found recently that I need to be much warmer in bed than OH does and have managed year round with a summer duvet and just pile extra blankets on my side as needed. Trouble is they tend to slip off or OH chucks his half of the duvet on top of me and I end up waking up too hot. Have threatened to buy two singles.
Would a feather duvet be better for us, does anyone think? One of the reasons he tends to kick off the duvet is because he has varicose veins which seem to get hot at night. I thought the lightness of a feather duvet would help.
I don't want to spend a lot of money only to be no better off than we were with the cheapo option. I also remember something about you shouldn't put blankets on top of feather duvets because the weight squashes the feathers so you actually loose the insulating properties.
A bit of a ramble but any sugesions welcome.
To the OP, I agree with other posters here, I would only get cheap synthetic duvets for young children, they have a tendency to throw up on them etc. You risk ruining your washing machine by trying to wash them or have to pay £5-10 getting them cleaned at the laundrette. I also would choose to buy two lower togs to use together or seperately depending on how cold it was.( I also find that you can get a summer duvet in the washing machine with no problem)
I also agree with the sugestion of buying cheapo fleece bankets from Primark, I got a couple of lovely fluffy fleece
blankets last year ( though I haven't yet seen them this year ) for I think £5 from there. They wash well and dry very quickly. Ive even put DD2's in a 60 degree wash and its come out fine, though I dont suppose it would cope with that on a regular basis0 -

Also a question that worries me. Where does the down come from? Surely to get so much down the birds would have to be intensively reared?0

You'll find Tesco/ASDA etc sell the cheapest. We've got a Tesco one and for some reason it does not stay "put" inside the duvet cover very well. I always seem to find the duvet rides down inside the cover. Not sure if this is because the duvet was cheap.
Homebase sell them too, and I seem to remember their prices not being too bad. Otherwise maybe Argos?
For top quality try M&S, but they're not cheap.0 -

:rotfl:They look and feel sooo much nicer ironed
To save money/time not ironing
I have about three various throws that go on top of my duvet so no-one sees the cover (also have some nice covers that don't get very crinkly that we got as presents!). An old house mate used to iron all her bed covers and she used to look really funny doing it, mainly because she was very small and it took her ages, even did the sheets! I rarely iron anything now unless we are going out (rarely!).
We have a 13 tog for winter which is on now and get quite hot under it (ikea syn can't remember price as is about 5 years old) and 4 tog for summer (Matalan £8). I think that you are meant to clean them every so often due to dust mites etc, but I have never done so (head in sand, la la la!).0
