I have just bought osme curtains for the boys room in preparation for the winter. DP has told me I shouldn't have wasted my money and instead I should have bought them a decent duvet each. He rekons they are thin things. I honestly didn't give it a thought and honestly can't remember the last time I bought new ones for the boys
.
Where can I get cheapish decent duvets from, and what tog should I be buying for the winter in a draughty house that dosen't heat well upstairs?
Also how often do I need to buy new ones, I think it's got to have been at least 6 years or more they've had them

Following a recommendation from Live on £4K a year thread, I've just bought DS an electric blanket (he doesn't know yet as it's a pressie).
Duvet-wise, DS has a double duvet on a single bed. Got it from Argos. High tog. Got my brother a bargain from Debenhams sale last year (75% off).:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Hi
I have a 4 tog duvet for my son for the summer which i think i got from Tesco last year for about £6 and a 13.5tog one for the winter which i think was roughly the same price from Matalan/Primark/Tesco.
I think as long as they are clean and not gone lumpy then 6 years is OK. TBH never considered replacing duvets0 -
I used to have a 2 in 1 quilt, a thin & thick one you put together for winter, the thick alone for not so cold & the thin for mild nights. TBH I never used them together, but I keep my house warm.
Any way, we got fed up of feather coming out & just bought a new bed & needed a bigger quilt, so I've just bought a pure new wool one, its not in tog ratings & its susposed to be warm in winter & cool in summer.
I've also got a new 1 tog for the hot summer nights.
What filling do you want?
If you don't want to buy wool, think about the 2 in 1 type.0 -
Never thought about what filling I want. I don't know the difference to be honestCapital one was £1000.00 now £0.00:j

I personally only buy duvets with cotton coverings as some of them feel like paper and will rip/tear quite easily. The maximum tog i purchase for either my bed or the kids is 13.5. I also do not have any heating on during the night in winter as i find it gets too warm so this size tog is ample for our needs.:j Was married 2nd october 2009 to the most wonderful man possible:j

I got mine from Ikea... We bought the feather and dawn one, made of 2 different tog duvets, so we find that the thin one is perfect for summer and then the thicker one for autumn and warm winter, or we put both together when the cold starts biting.
We used to have a synthetic filling and that just used to become lump and not comfortable to sleep under. I find this one very cosy and soft, and no feathers or downs started shedding yet. We are using it for nearly 2 years now.Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -

I know when my friends bought one, they paid something like £100  I wouldn't be able to pay that. I bought king size (to go with the new bed) and I am sure we didn't pay even half what my friends did. And we have 3 duvets!!!! (one is 4.5TOG, second is 7.5TOG and third added together!)
I really like it and it just reminds me when we used to go to grandma's as kids and she had the big really heavy ones (as upstairs was not heated in winter). Loved it then and love it now. We could see our breath in the morning, but were never cold!:rotfl:Spring into Spring 2015 - 0.7/12lb0 -
Strawberry laces - I'm sure your curtains will help keep the room warm! Cheap single duvets are usually available in supermarkets, about £7-10. 13.5 tog is the max you are likely to find.
I buy new ones every couple of years as I buy cheapy ones and the filling sometimes goes flat or lumpy. It's cheaper than trying to get them cleaned and the old ones can be recycled at you local dog's home.
Primark are great for kid's fleecy PJs and fleece blankets to put over the bed, too."Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
