We have a 4.5 tog duvet which lasts us all year round as our house is well insulated and cavity wall filled. We had to cast off the 10.5 and 13 tog feathered ones because they were too hot. Our current one is man made material and washes easily. If you house is cold and draughty I think you'd need a minimum of 10.5 tog. If your children are asthmatic or bronchitis, a synthetic material might be better than feathers, to prevent allergic reactions.

Another vote for Ikea duvets here - we've got the '2 in 1' one for all seasons - had it 4 years and it's washable too (synthetic one).

Got my daughter one from Debenhams in the sale a couple of years ago (75% off), that one is a feather one and that's been good too. I think for kiddies you can't beat synthetic though - easily washable!

I got mine from Ikea... We bought the feather and dawn one, made of 2 different tog duvets, so we find that the thin one is perfect for summer and then the thicker one for autumn and warm winter, or we put both together when the cold starts biting.
We used to have a synthetic filling and that just used to become lump and not comfortable to sleep under. I find this one very cosy and soft, and no feathers or downs started shedding yet. We are using it for nearly 2 years now.

I ALWAYS had feather & down till this new one, hate synthetic:eek:

If you like feather & down, you would LOVE pure new wool.

I prefer it to feathers & I've only had it a week.

How much did it cost? i used to work for a company a while (long while) ago that used to sell them, but they were incredibly expensive then. I might think about it when we come to change the current one!!!1

Was going to buy this one

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fogarty-Pure-Wool-Duvet-Superking/dp/B000G7KI5O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen&qid=1221769527&sr=8-1

    Or this

    Or this

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-King-Duvet-Hypoallergenic-Wool-Winter-Autumn-weight_W0QQitemZ310035439003QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

    Or this

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/S-King-Duvet-Hypoallergenic-Wool-All-Seasons-Combo_W0QQitemZ310035438995QQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p3286.m20.l1116

BUT before I bought any of those, I saw a guy selling M&S ones on ebay
I wasn't sure I believed him if they were M&S as they are not on the web, but I took a chance & bought it
This is his current one (only a double)

But the one I got has part of the label cut away & blacked out with a felt tip, but it IS M&S, I reconise their codes (those T codes) & the rest of the label. I did email him prior to buying it to ask if it was M&S why wasn't it on the M&S web, this was his reply.
M&S DO SELL WOOL DUVETS LOOK IN M&S HOME BOOK AUTUMN/WINTER PAGE 227 PRODUCT CODE T35-6908D YOU WILL FIND THE NEW PRICE FOR SUPER KING IS £149.00.
THIS DUVET IS WINTER USE MANY THANKS

Anyway, glad I took a chance, because I would prefer an M&S one to anyother & if M&S had them I would have happliy paid £150.

    With post it was £63!!!!

I don't know if they are old stock, or new to be in the new autumn book?
    But its GREAT:beer:

Bought one from Morrisons the other day for £4.99, 13.5 tog, synthetic. Can't tell you how good it is because it was for DS1, away at uni. At that price you can hardly go wrong!

But his previous one must be 20 years old. We had several "3 in 1"s and some have lasted well, with one the filling just sort of shredded.

I used to have a 2 in 1 quilt, a thin & thick one you put together for winter, the thick alone for not so cold & the thin for mild nights.

Bought this last year - but Goose Feather/Down.

The "light one" is 4.5 tog and the other one 9 tog. They have press-studs so when you put them together you get a 13.5 tog duvet.

Goose down, cotton cover and machine washable. I put the 4.5 tog in the WM on Monday as my dog had "claimed" it when he was wet and smelly :o But it's now dry and good as new.

Bought it from .... www.directbedding.com but the site seems to be down ... or maybe "they are no more".

Shame, as it was a great product at a great price.

Anyway - the three-in-one duvets work for me. I've just switched from the 4.5 tog to the 9 tog this week and don't expect to put them together for another 2 months or so ....

My problem is ironing the duvet covers .... :D
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

I got a fleece underblanket for DD's bed from Morrison's last week, it was double sixe for £4.95, iirc the single ones were £3.95. It keeps them warm from underneath, so much that DD was complaining of being too warm, even though she still has her summer quilt on.

edit ti add - it looks bumpy and wooly, not like a fleece blanket - more like a sheep's covering.
