  • Just wanted to say you sound like you are really getting into it now, I was BR 2 years ago - single parent left by ex with £75k debt. It was a nightmare first of all, and I was scared witless but I soon got used to it, and even gained some satisfaction from being so frugal. Got discharged last Oct so almost a year now, and obviously have a bit more spare cash but it is great to have taught myself a much needed lesson in that I now return to my old ways when I need to save some cash, esp in the current climate. Well done and don't give, your life is about to change beyond belief (in a good way!!)

Anne, my love, you brought tears to my eyes. I'm sorry we weren't here for your sister, but so glad that you have found this place and have found the strength to fight back for both of you. (((((:heart2: )))))

If only we could be little flies on the wall when the OR contacts your ex [STRIKE]barstard[/STRIKE] husband, oh to see him squirm:D

And what's all this about you maybe getting money back, ooh err missus! Would there be enough equity to annull your BR?

Anyway, glad it went went well for you, and that your OR treated you like the valued human being you are. Here's to the future:beer:

  • Hi
Thank you Marshmallow, I have had so much support on here and will pass that support on, Im enjoying being frugal and makes me realise that money is NOT everything.

Peachyprice, yes Id love to be a fly on the wall too, I dont want revenge just what Im legally entitled to...and in all of this Ive learnt that health and friendship and the love of a decent man far exceeds any monetary joy.
Once this has sunk in, I`ll have my lovley OHs BR to sort out and then we can both move on, he goes BR in November and the cracks in his resolve are showing but I shall support him just as he has supported me.

Marshmallow Im glad one year on your doing well, I think once the angst of the BR wears off I can sort the rest of my life out, but thats easy compared to my journey here today.

    Thanks all

  • oh and PS Anne - am loving the whistle idea!!! Wish I had thought of that! I was still working at the same place unfortunately (local council) so very easy for them to track me down they just used to phone me at work. Also note the most wonderful thing is they are ABSOLUTELY not allowed to contact you once BR. They will try though so keep a note of your OR address and phone no to hand in your diary or something - give it to them once and if they contact you again give them hell - it's such a lovely feeling to get your own back, tell them you will report them to the OR if they contact you again! Nice to be able to answer the phone wothout this sinking feeling! Wish I had found this site when I did mine, i had the CCCS who were wondeful helping me with SOA etc though, but nice to be able to pass on help now I have been there. When they told me the creditors could not contact me after BR that kept me going while waiting for my date!
  • Congratulations for getting through the interview. Glad you have come out the otherside positive.
"Well, that sounds like a pretty good deal. But I think I got a better one. How about I give you the finger, and you give me my phone call"

  • Hi All.....

Well its over, I had a fantastic, yes fantastic OR examiner he was brilliant, not once did he make me feel bad, silly, about having got into a financial mess, infact he was most supportive and kept asking if I was ok to continue with the interview.
We went through my Statement of Affairs with a fine toothcomb, I expained roughly what I did with the money, and he listened to my explanation of why/how I got into debt and explained my responsiblities of being Bankrupt and said that he didnt see any reason why I might not be considered for an early discharge once the OR had finished his report sending etc.
He explained all about Nil Tax Codes, IPA`s and the best bit:D :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D that they would be contacting ex husband :rotfl: :rotfl: re my beneficial interest in the ex marital home, and would be liquidating my financial interests ....and that once all debts and fees had been paid then I could maybe have some money back:confused::confused::confused: .
Lets see exhusband tell the Official Receiver to f**orf this bit should be interesting as my solicitor has got nowhere with my marital financial settlement in 3 years so fingers crossed, serves the ex right I hope they have some sucess as they have more clout than I have.

I was dreading this morning, but it was also good in renforcing the whys and whats as to how I got into debt..a subtle but kind reminder that the journey here to BR hasnt been easy, and the journey out isnt easy either but achievable.
Maybe Ive been lucky and have a tougher skin than most but I keep thinking back to my sister Lynn and her financial mess, only £7k but she felt unable to discuss what was going on, not even to family and close friends, and so she committed suicide, had she known about this MSE site and Martins help and DFW and BR and Living With It maybe she wouldnt have felt so alone...I keep playing scenarios in my head if I missed her debt distress, did I miss something, but no I didnt, she was excellent in hiding her debt situation, as I was...So if your reading this and your in a financial mess, ask for help on here, just please please do it...Martins :money: no debt is beyond help is the truth, yes at the moment your debts may be huge and life is dark and no light is in your
life, but just a simple Help me, and you come into a light of warmth and friendship and constructive advice, YOU ARE NOT ALONE , yes its easy typing this as I have gone down the debt path a bit, but I was once where you are now, take that first small step, it will be the biggest thing you will ever do I promise you that and that first step to a new life of peace and a night of sleep.

Thank you all so much for your support on here, my thanks cannot express right how I feel right now, in so short a time Ive come so far and I wouldnt have gotten here if it wasnt for the folk on this forum and I will still be here and putting in my advice where I think I can help, now its OHs BR now...yet another journey begins...

:D:D:DAnne, sniffling and thinking thank god for MSE and you lot:j :j :j :j :j :j :j     xxxx
    oh my well done!

I'm new and in that dark dark place, and I'm so sorry for your sister, but can completely understand why she did it. The pressure is immense at times, hopefully Martins site has saved me to.

thankyou, you made me cry lol
