haven't you got business cards with the MSE web address on that you could hand out to all these people??

Although they could just be spending what they've saved over the previous month before starting a new one,

maybe they do the Pinmoney challenge icon12.gif

Brilliant blog entry - it really made me smile :)

I'm lucky enough to have never been prone to the illusion of scampering money myself, and do have a friend who somehow gets vacuum-sucked into dvd shops (that's *shops* not carefully price-checked online retailers) come payday. He's the one I've given my old copy of the Money Diet to...

My daughter is pretty bad for spending it as soon as it comes in. She gets paid the one day - and by the next weekend her wages have practically gone. Then she spends the next three weeks trying to borrow money off me or her dad.

Fraid to say I always go out on payday. It's part of the fun of what payday's all about.

Sometimes you've gotta forget about being a moneysaver and remember to maintain a life :D

  • These are the kind of people who really need to learn how to budget. Through budgeting, I've enjoyed myself from the 1st to the 31st (month depending  ) without ever spending too much. I only recently turned 30 so I hope I've been doing something right :D
  • well well well...

this is really familiar... and from my years of uni not being too far from me, I can tell you that the next batch of young professionals is not going to be better... a lot of them were spoilt rotten, would expect, the latest Golf, the latest ipod, the latest phone, the latest gadgets, sky tv, and wonder why they cant get on the property ladder.

My mom always told me: pay your bills first, then at the end of the month just before payday you see what s left and you are free to do whatever you want with it (save, spend). I chose to save but I am still ahving fun and still go for drinks with my friends, i just go to the cheap places. I think this "spend it as soon as you have it" philosophy is a reflection of today's society: I want everything right now and I have to have to exist!

I used to be like that when I was young and single, it was when I had three children and was a SAHM with only one wage packet (my husbands) coming in that I learned the hard way. I happily used to go and spend on payday and leave very little to last the month, what I could have done with the money I wasted!

Martin you said: "Maybe I’m getting old!"
Ah - older but so very much wiser. Let's hope some wisdom will come to these young ones in due time.
