I've never had a cat before, am I supposed to trim her claws?!

It's funny you should ask that with her being an indoor cat - I've had cats all my life and they've always been proper out and about cats who roam all over the place. Then I got these two from the RSPCA last year and they were already 4 years old and don't like going outside at all, in fact they just sit looking at the door when I do force them out. Anyway, when I got them I was finding little 'claws' all over the place, almost as though they shed them, whereas I'd never ever seen them before. I guess the outdoorsy cats must just lose theirs climbing trees and so on. I don't think you're meant to trim them, we never have, and I even seem to think it might be detrimental if you do (?). Maybe get her a scratching post so she can keep them down naturally?

Between you and Cinny you've got me £1 closer to having OH here so big thanks for that as well as having the patience to read my thread, and post to keep me company :grouphug:

Aw, I feel like I've helped now! thanks to you (and Tete en l'Air!) for keeping me company and entertained these past few long days at work too!

going to push myself onto STP tonight, wasn't working last night for me  really wanting to get that £5 pay out before christmas now.

these are soft claws: (turns out they're softpaws!)

just seems abit mean for cats, when they're outdoors and need their claws for grip and to fight the big ol' tomcats.

Someone just mentioned I might be meant to trim them, I think they have to trim the rabbit's claws at school! She goes mad at the carpet, I got her a scratching post but she just nuzzled her head against it - bright she is not!

While we're on the cat questions then, is there any way to know if she's had her jabs? I think she has as she lived with another family a few months but I'm not sure. Also is there any way to know if she has been 'done'? One of my mums friends said she'd be totally different sometimes if she wasn't done, but shes always calm, so I'm not sure!

Can't open pics at work, will look when I get home, thanks.

You HAVE helped! And if people didn't talk to me I might have lost my motivation by now.

STP wasn't working for me either, could log on, but couldn't submit reviews.

Wouldn't let me log on last night at all! So I decided to watch little dorrit instead. Give it another whirl tonight, I've lost my laptop charger though :/

not sure how you'd find out if she's had her jabs or not. If you went to the vets she went to then I'm sure they'll be able to tell you.

Did anyone watch that animal show on C4 last night? With the poor little fat kitty, trust it to be in rotherham!

Nope I was watching 'teen mum high', apparently the teen mum school is only about 5 miles from me. Have to admit I was in shock at these lasses aged 15 with a toddler on the knee and another bairn on the way. That said I do respect their decision to keep the babies, I just wish the UK had better sex education than having a mumbling biology teacher put a condom on a banana then tell you to read page 121 of your textbook which shows a smiley faced sperm and egg.

I wish I had that, instead I was sat down one day with my mum and a book from WHSmiths to explain the ways of the world. Most likely the only time I wished I wasn't homeschooled. Surprising though, I was taken out of school at 12 and hadn't had a single lesson on any of it.

Where I work I have people coming in who look about 12 with a couple of kids asking if we have any houses for rent, it's quite weird to see over your morning tea.
  • Yikes to the soft claws, I want to know how you're supposed to put them on the poor thing without having your eyes clawed out in the first place!

I think 'un-done' cats tend to want to be out at night, doing rudies with the toms. I think if she's not bothered about going out then she probably has been done. Has she got a flabby, flappy bit of belly that swings when she walks? Mine both do and apparently this is something to do with the muscle not knitting together right after they've been speyed, but I don't think this happens to all of them. Not sure about the jabs though, if she's chipped and her first family did it, I'm not sure whether medical record info is held on there or not?

I've just followed your link for dooyoo and got this message:

Unfortunately your invitation was sent to you over two weeks ago and the link to earn your friend bonus dooyooMiles by registering with the dooyooCommunity has expired.

BOOOO! Do you want to try again?

I think this is the crux of it, I'm sure they know all about contraception, but a baby is a fast track to a council house and benefits for a lot of people. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I work in Middlesbrough and am surrounded by it every day!

You're right. Although people coming in to us has died down recently as we just don't have any houses, we have 2 empty ones but my cousin has blagged the almost complete one for when he leaves the army and I've got my eye on the other (it won't be ready until I'm 21 anyways)

It bugs me how teenage parents think they should have it handed to them on a plate. Saying that there were alot of older mums on the radio annoyed because they wont be getting as much single mums benefit after their child turns 12. But if you need money you have to work.
