Ooh, all this talk of ISAs reminds me I can apply for the one I have my eye on tomorrow :j Would only be putting about £100 in it a month but that's still £1200 where the tax man can't get at it.
Tete - I don't think my will power is that strong, is an idea to mull over though!
That's great news Birdie! What made her pick the French Alps though?! Have fun making the card.
Her friend is out there working and she asked her if she knew anyone available to work so she decided that she'd go, I think she was convinced that she'd be the one to be made redundant anyway so she decided to bite the bullet and go! I'm a little jealous really, I'm going to have to step in and cover her which means going back to a more phone-orietated job and I don't like doing it; it drives me mad being nice to people who just want to tell me off for other people's mistakes! I have to do it though so they keep me! I can't really jack it in now thanks to ye olde recession, I'll just have to stick it out and leave once jobs are more plentiful!
It makes me giggle that you're excited about turning 18 so you can open an ISA! LOL. Usually 18 year olds can't wait to buy booze or place a bet! Your way is probably the best way though! :cool:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Eyeing up a trip to London, on the easter week I have off of work, £117.10 with hotel and train for two people *sigh*
Thats what OH keeps saying Birdie, most of my old school friends would of spent their birthday money on the pub, but I'm dreaming of a Pashley and ISAs! I'll settle for a Pimms cup and £1 on the afternoon races at Southwell though!
As for getting telling-offs on the phone, it's coming up the that time of the month where it's all I get for paying invoices. You kind of harden up to it with time, I'm a right tough cookie now, honest. There is a bonus of manning the phones though, every now and then you get a really nice person ring up that you can chin wag to for about 15minutes to take your mind off of work!0 -
Barclay's ISA is 3.61% off the top of my head, it's more convenient with the same bank, unfortunately makes it more likely you'll get tempted to dip into it. At the end of the day on the current rates the difference will be less than £10 over a year anyway.
I was also refused for the First Direct so we're stuck with HSBCs good customer service/poor rates combo. Writting the letter to A & L as I speak!Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008

That's a shame Dinah, especially since FD and HSBC seem to be inter-connected!
I'm already a fairly tough cookie on the phone, but I get in trouble for it! I'm very brisk with calls because I just want to get the problem solved quickly (I'm not talking to customers, it's our branches who ring) whereas the other girls are very lovely and soft and nice and chatty. I get the job done quickly but I'm apparently not 'nice' enough, I should do what they do and just talk rubbish for ages to everyone who rings and dodge other work coming in because I'm 'too busy'.:rolleyes:Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. I am off school today feeling as rough as toast. All this money talk how exciting. I am going to go back to bed soon to recharge my batteries then I think I will spent the rest of the evening listing on ebay as that won't be to taxing for me.Total debt Feb 2012 = £54354.11 😳

Oooh, that's a lovely swishy dress! It's my favourite so far, just decided!
If it's someone I don't know I'm brisk on the phone, but if it's someone who phones in quite a bit I get far too chatty for my own good and their sanity! But it's normally just me in the office so I need somebody to talk to. Other than you lot that is!!
Barclays ISA sounds good, but that's the companys bank and they're a right pain sometimes! I think I'll stick with Abbey, never had a single problem with them!
ETA: Oh no ROTE! I hope you're feeling better soon, good luck on you ebaying. Should be a breeze! Are items under 99p still free?0 -
Birdie that's great news about your colleague and good luck to her going off abroad like that, she'll love it! Grin and bear it with the phones, surely the more willing you seem to help out, the better your chances of being kept on? I know what you mean though with snotty people, I deal with school and we get some right old hag head teachers on talking to you like you're one of their pupils, it really annoys me. I put them straight to the bottom of the to do pile
I'm not normally too keen on the fussier dresses but actualy really like today's, very romantic and I love the creamy colour! And the frill around the neckline. What do you think?
That's a shame about First Direct Dinah, sounds like a combination of your bad rating (A&L) and possibly NIM's not being in the UK very long? might make your finances easier to keep track of, for us at least!
My ISA, started it last tax year, filled it I think, then definitely filled it this year, and am looking to fill it again 09-10, but wondering if transferring it will count towards my allowance, so I can't transfer before April, or if I transfer in April won't be able to put anything else into it til next April..? But judging on the rates Cinny's and you have been quoting, well I thought I was on about 5% so if so then I won't be moving at all. Hope I haven't set myself up for a disappointment when I see how much I've actually earned on it!
ETA - poor ROTE, love the phrase rough as toast though!! I wouldn't count an evening of ebay listing as not taxing though, yuk! Good luck with it!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -
I hope so cinny as I have a good lot to list. Plus today would be ideal as I am bed/setee bond.Total debt Feb 2012 = £54354.11 😳

Sorry you're feeling ill, don't worry about Ebay if you're not up to it.
You could call the bank and ask your rate? If you only get paid annually I'm sure you won't be dissapointed anyway as it was quite decent up until about October. I'll have to try to find a bearable rate ISA in April when we come back as we certainly need to be saving over £500 a month, another £1k a month more ideally, so need somewhere to put it.
Transfering your ISA will not affect your allowance, you'll still have a full £3600 for 2009-10 come April 6th regardless of when you transfer it.Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81Met NIM 23/06/2008
