Thanks beanielou. Hoping the cheque from the ex's mum has cleared tonight so can transfer it onto CC1 and have cleared the first card. Gonna take a big screen shot and sent it to OH saying 'one down, one to go!'. Have also sold another 5 books since last night plus the one cookbook on ebay, another £10 or so after postage and fees towards clearing the second card :T

Was good and did some car insurance quotes this morning (or not so good depending on how you look at it since i'm at work!) and it looks like my quote this year will be the same as my renewal, however the best I can get is about £2 more than my renewal however includes protected NCD which my renewal doesn't, and I can get £75 cashback so think swapping providers makes sense.

Or in my case a whacking great huge one! Tried getting debt free just for the sake of it and I would be okay for a while, then I would slip and buy a new treat, or even just start buying nicer groceries. This time I have gone dirty and brutal, cut out all luxuries, moved back in with my parents to cut down on bills, and dont allow myself to turn off moneysaving until 11pm, up until then I'm a very boring one trick pony of surveys, mystery shopping, ebay, amazon and the latest offer on the up your income board.

OH has applied for some jobs over here, be intersting to see if I can keep up the momentum if he comes over anyway and I have nothing specific to work towards.

  • Hi Dinah, just caught up on your thread since you've been back - well done you! With what you've got left to pay off I really can't see you losing momentum until it's done, you're an inspiration!

    :jWooohoooooooooooo :j

Sorry, got myself a little excited there! The cheque from ex's mum cleared, so have transfered £192 onto CC1, and had forgotten the £100 a month standing order had already gone out onto the account so that's it, it's completely cleared!!!!

As well as doing a little dance and generally getting down tonight (can't do the other since OH is 500 miles away ;)) going to list my 10 items on ebay, do my competitions (would love to hear of anyone who has worse luck than me - 1 item in 10 months entering around 35 per day on average!), package up the books I sold today (already got the 1 out the shed that was awol), and I got my ex's mum's curtains and his bits of tat out the shed too ready to give to her tomorrow.

Technically have more money cleared off debt than signiture suggests by about £520, but I need to work out where to send it now everything is 0%. My gut says savings account, I have two with HSBC, which seems convenient as I can instantly move money about online, but I think the rates are a bit rubbish. That said in this climate I feel safe with it in HSBC, and I don't think I would earn much interest in the few months before CC2 comes off 0% and needs paying off. What do you think?

    Good morning all.

Thank you so much for the lovely replies, the attitude of people on here is just amazing, and it means a lot to me that people have taken time to read my thread and post their support.

Received a second cheque from ex's mum to cover his half of the joint overdraft. This is going in my personal account today, as until I have the letter saying he has no access to the account, I'm not about to put money in it! At present he hasn't signed the form to give up control of the account or destroyed his card. Going to put that in the bank at lunchtime (incidentally cheque will make my bank balance marginally positive a week from payday, which hasn't happened in 5 years! :T ).

Looked into savings accounts, and have decided to get an ISA to put the money into until early March when (hopefully!) there will be enough in there to pay off CC2. Both the ODs are at 0%, but the Virgin card will go to a stupid rate of interest if I don't pay that off so that's the priority now. I'm going to deduct the money off the CC balance in my sig, even though it won't be transfered until March (or until I have enough to cover the balance as I will be too excited not to!). According to Martin's article the HSBC ISA is the best for existing customers, and luckily I am, so going to go with that as will be very convenient having it all in one place. However I am a little confused as to whether I can deposit randomly in small ammounts throughout the month or if it has to be a fixed regular ammount, so going to ask the question at the bank when I put in the cheque.

Didn't list my 10 items last night (I refuse to be slipping already so 20 to do tonight!) as I was completely shattered and fell asleep at about 9.30 on my desk! Think I'm still drained from the ear infection thingy last week. OH is coming over on Friday (there isn't a smily face big enough to go here) for a currently indefinite period of time while we wait to see if he gets any interviews or anything. Probably stay about 10 days I think, but I have to work as don't have the holiday time to spare. He's told me to make him a to do list as he hates being bored, so he's going to list all those awful comics that have been making me miserable. Went out to my stuff shed last night, could only find 2 boxes, so either they're buried under more stuff or I don't have anywhere near as many as I thought. There are also some more books, and dvds and games he's going to be an angel and crack on with for me.
