The ultimate incentive to get debt free, can I do it by New Years?

It's ridiculous how long it's taking Birdie! Fingers crossed for Friday.
Really looking forward to Chatsworth, we were meant to go last year for my birthday but went to Belton House instead as we were stupidly hard up last year. Southwell workhouse opens this weekend so I might take OH there instead of the cinema. Ooooh, all the houses will be opening soon! Yes, I am really this sad
Glad to hear you're better too Tete!0 -
Glad to hear that you're better now tete, apart from the sore nose!
One application of E45 essential moisture stuff and it's a thing of soft loveliness again!
Can't believe you still haven't moved! 'So busy with completions'.. I thought the housing market was supposed to be dead on its feet!
Anyway, I'm rationing myself on MSE this week as I'm very very busy. I'll pop on again at lunchtime, although it'll probably take me a whole hour to read through the chat! More coffee exercises, then work!Weightloss: 14.5/65lb0 -

Oooh, you're a girl after my own heart! My OH doesn't like 'boring old houses' so I have to beg random family and friends to go them with me!
Oooh, speaking of OH, I got my ring on Saturday! :j It is currently on a necklace hidden underneath my shirt as I'm still not officially engaged  OH didn't get a chance to ask Dad on Saturday so we're going to have to organise some other meeting for them soon. I'm hoping that we'll get the keys today and they can have a nice 'chat' in the car/van tomorrow when they're moving stuff. My ring is sooooo pretty it doesn't deserve to be hidden for much longer!Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!Goal Weight 140lb Starting Weight: 160lb Current Weight 145lb0 -
Thankfully OH quite likes the houses! They're all new and shiney to him but just old haunts to me, I think that's why he's so set on taking me to Chatsworth. My mum is still dragging my Pa around the houses after about 30 years of being together, so OH still has a way to go.
Yay for the ring, I wouldn't be able to keep it to myself. You better not stop showing us your dress of the day when it's all out in the open!0 -

Ohh, I love the fascinator! That's a(nother) lovely dress. Would look good without the train too. I was looking at the dress SJP wore to the Oscars and after thinking 'She's a very odd looking lady' I then thought 'That should be Birdies DOTD!'0

Am liking this dress, very classy!
Hi all and hope you all had a lovely weekend. I am feeling lousy today, have a scratchy throat and sore head.
Dinah, don't be worried about the small amount saved up for your deposit. Every bit counts and you will build up to it in no time. Have you a date that you want the money saved by or will you take it as it comes?
I am also going to be saving for a house deposit when OH finishes uni in July. It will be great to have another wage coming in! We already have a flat in Scotland but don't want to sell that. I would rather save the deposit again and leave the flat to make money as we have had it for 5 years.
How is the swimming coming along Tete?
Chatsworth sounds beautiful Cinny. I defo want to see more of the UK this year, starting with a weekend at the lakes in a few weeks. Can't wait!
Birdie, sorry the house move wasn't completed. Hope it gets sorted out today. What is it like? Are you excited?Total (Aug 19):€58,567 Now:€26,947

Good grief Birdie are they taking the mick! Tell them you were there first and it's your turn to complete!
House deposit should shoot up in the next week or two, as house deposit is a joint fund with NIM, however I am not counting his savings towards the £20k in 2009 challenge, that is only made/saved/paid off money. Am hoping to have the house deposit up to £5k by April 1st, anything over this is a bonus. Aiming for roughly 2 1/2 years, summer 2011 (this is just in my head mind, just that's when NIM will finish uni and be a qualified teacher, so I kind of have it in my head that that would be when we would buy a house, but as you all know, that comes with certain provisos (ahem), so we'll have to see if that works to the same timescale!
Was playing around a bit with the savings calculator at the weekend, we REALLY need to find NIM more work, it's going to make a huge difference over the long term. He's still poorly, for the first time I just got dressed and left him sleeping, figure he needs the rest today.
Had to go up to Newcastle last night, friend called me in tears, she's broken up with her boyfriend and it seems I give the kind of advice and condolences she wants to hear. So that was only £15 as I didn't take my bank card (classy dinner at pizza hut included!), but she wants me to go back on Friday as well, she needs to find a new man apparently. She is extremely picky mind, the liklihood of meeting her type of man in a pub is slim (30ish, ready to settle down, polite, gentleman-like, good job, successful career wise but primarily family orientated, with some money/a house already behind him, intellegant, able to debate knowledgably especially on finance, reasonably good looking, fit and toned but not liking to watch or overly play sports, reasonably good looking, prefers wine to beer, prefers eating out or quiet activities to the pub to name just a few criteria), but she won't try online dating, and doesn't really have any other outlets such as a hobby as a way to meet people. I can see this being a nightmare struggle!
Got £19 through from a MS today, so that's gone in the house deposit fund. All my savings are going to continue to go in there until the ISA is full (about £500 more to go), then I'll start on clearing the OD.
Not so keen on today's dress I'm afraid, pretty enough, but doesn't catch my attention. I'm a little concerned mind, we have a few posters in here whose other halfs are making indications in that direction (Tete and Lara spring to mind, sorry if I exluded someone else!) - if we start to have 3 dresses of the day the thread will implode due to the weight of images!
Would like to get a few camera dooyoos done today, but have quite a busy day at work, will have to see how it goes. Not going to be home till 9pm either as had to lend my dad my car as his speedo and petrol guage isn't working again, so will have to wait at the gym after pilates for NIM to pick me up. Omg LOL! She doesn't want much! Just waiting for my friend to get back to me about whether my proposal is ok to send off to some unis. I am very impatient and hate waiting! Hopefully I can get the process all kicked off today.
Sounds like the perfect timescale for a house, Dinah. Poor old NIM, I hope he's okay. Will be looking for a part time job this week too, something flexi that hopefully pays okay. Better get my Swarovski crystals on ebay!
Cinny - I thought just the same about SJP's dress - its perfect for you Birdie.:A :heartpuls June 2014 / £2014 in 2014 / £735.97 / 36.5%0 -
New mantra - 'I will get back to moneymaking!'.
I think I might need to take on that mantra too. Been pouring all my energy into the company the past few weeks I haven't had much spare time. I don't really feel inclined to make extra money atm, I'd rather chow down on my ever growing book pile then hit STP or dooyoo. Might excuse myself until after my 18th then I can get on bingoport and extra scratchies!
Money making is a 100% extra to debt busting, most people just do it by cutting back, I wouldn't feel too bad about not doing as much as you used too. You're still grinding you debt away, admittedly not as quickly as before but you have NIM over now, one of the many things money worries should come after! Well done on the first pennies going into your house pot aswell!
And as for your friend, she sounds as picky as my sister! I know it isn't bad to have a type but blimey, sounds like you'd have to fill out a form before speaking to them! Hope she's feeling a bit happier soon though.0
