    Hello Everyone

Yes all this holiday is making me itchy to go somewhere and looking forward to our 3 days in Paris in April.

We went to New York last November for 2 weeks and did it very cheaply. We stayed with my sister in New Jersey for a few nights, and with our friend David in Brooklyn. We spent 5 nights in the famous bohemian Chelsea Hotel at $80 each per night.

    So a total of - £200 / $400 per person for hotel
Return flights from London - £250 per person flight
Spending money - £400 for everything (inc. clothes splurge of £100)

We went when the exchange rate was good, which helped. It was really easy to eat out cheaply, although with tipping at a huge 20% now the final bill could escalate quite a bit. Wine seemed to be stupidly expensive for a wine producing country - all the wines were from Europe rather than California. Beer was cheap.

We found the good but cheaper restaurants in the young trendy places like Park Slope and Williamsburg in Brooklyn. The ones in town were a bit more hit and miss.

We had a fab time and I would love to go again, although not a relaxing holiday. Don't stay for too long if you don't like big cities.

Hoping its the latter ones too, Dinah! Did NIM get a good deal with the gym then?

Managed to find a cottage for a week for £325, they seem pretty darn pricey though. Thinking I might aswell just trudge it out in the tents. hm. I really like OHs family and I'd love a week away with them, so I might have to compromise.

Compromise by saying you'll camp, but you want to go on a week with OH later in the year, you could get a really nice week abroad for £250 if you don't go in the summer holidays.

I have seen that video Dinah! My mum and sister burst into song about it quite often.

The cottage for the week, I've found one at £300, will ring OH to get proper details as I don't think he has a clue about it! Thing would be with the camping is 1. I'm clumsy as hell 2. I don't do 'natural' or if I do it's helped with make up and 3. It'll be our first proper holiday away together and I'd rather spend sometime just me and OH then surrounded by his family all the time.

I'll do it tonight, if I don't find it funny, on your head be it!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Lol I've got this image of Dinah unrolling a HUGE piece of paper with OH's list on it :rotfl: :rotfl:

I can't imagine what this thread would be like if you leave it for 2 weeks - I just popped into town and you guys have filled 3 pages! I was checking out the M&S valentine's dinner for £20, I think I could be tempted... mmmm, chocolate souffle...

  • Oh , all this holiday talk! My feet are getting itchy!!! I don't think I will be able to better last year though, I was in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Sydney and Boston!!

This year we have been to Barcelona in Jan, and we are going to the Lakes in March. We are also going to a wedding in Southern Spain in September and will travel around the area then. To top off the year, I would love to go to Cuba. That is my next holiday aim. Have been dying to go there for a couple of years.

Haven't been to New York yet but that is also high up on my list as well and hope to go there next year. I hope you get to go there Dinah, it sounds like a fabulous place!!!
