That's what I'm trying to get across, only less pineconey! I'm afraid that OH's family already think I'm posh. They always go on camping holidays with the dogs, but like Birdie I'm a home comforts girl. Really need to think of a way to 1. Bring OH around to the idea and 2. Bring his family around to the idea afterwards.

Is it possible that they'd meet you halfway and opt for a caravan? Still not my idea of a great holiday, but needs must!
Overcome the notion that you must be ordinary. It robs you of the chance to be extraordinary!

Been trying to get OH a policy for the new car. If it is in his name, and the car is legally owned by him it comes up as over £3k. Add me as a named driver we can get it down to £1.2k, make me the legal owner and policy holder with him as named building up his own ncb, and it's £465. Think it might be worth us drawing up a gentleman's agreement, that's a heck of a lot to save when the car is only worth £500.

I think if he's going to be the main driver though this might count as fraud. But then, that's only if you need to make a claim and they find out. I'm fairly new to driving myself though, but that's just what I read on Martin's Cut Car Insurance article.

Re camping. I Have to agree, I've been once in the Lakes when we were flooded out, and once at a festival, and they're not the nicest of experiences anyway! OH loves it though and I'm willing to try, but I don't think I'll like it! It's the having to cross a field to get to the toilet (or there not being a toilet at all!) that would get me!

They've already booked it for camping I think, me and OH will have to book by ourselves so nothing is set in stone for us yet. We'd be going same dates ect and there'd be nothing stopping us doing day things with them then staying at the campsite till late. We camped out 2 nights last year and both hated it, so I don't know why he's being so stubborn.

I was thinking the same! What if you do it third party cover? That's what OH had for last year and it cost him £500 on his second year driving.
  • all this talk of holidays sounds good, unfortunatly my pc just broke so will need to replace that first :(. i agree with the camping-last time i did it was also doe gold and it was horrible!!!!

With a car only worth £500 though I don't think it makes much difference. My car was worth that when I very first passed and I think fully comp was only an exta £7 for the whole year than the 3rd Party. I guess they think on a car not worth much you'll either do a small amount of damage and just pay for it so you don't lose your no claims, or do a lot of damage in which case the repairs will cost more than the car so you won't bother claiming then either. Or something.

  if thats true OH spent three years being insured like this. He had it in his mums name as it was so expensive.

Dont worry hes not anymore, got his own when we moved in together last year.

All this talk of holidays makes me want to go away....NOW!! I have to agree with Dinah though, i dont feel like i have had a holiday unless i go abroad somewhere hot. A break in the UK just doesnt feel like a holiday to me, especially if i have to go camping!!!

Thats a shame about your PC mariella! Hopefully you'll be able to get away later on in the year?

edit - talking to OH about the camping over text, finished it with 'but it's my holiday too' and a sad face. Leave it at that until tomorrow as we always misread each other over texts, msn ect., but I think the sad face might of swayed him. :D

This is for third party, he may be the highest risk driver known to man. Lived in uk under 1 month, non uk licence, no no claims bonus, only 1 year since passed, male, unmarried, non homeowner, under 25 etc etc. I can't see how it is fraud, I have put him down as being the main driver, which he would be, but policy in my name. Surely it cant be fraud if they offer it as an option! But the policy is in my name as the car is owned by me, which is also true since I'm paying for it.
