You can open an account with Think banking (just google it). You have to pay £12.00 per month, but you do get a maestro card and direct debits, and you have to have your salary paid into it.0

Please can some one help/advise us!! I had a Co-op account just before we went BR, had a total of 3 dd's returned so are now closing the account.
Tried lloyds tsb for a basic account....declined
Tried Barclays for a basic account.... DECLINED!!! Help!
Has anyone else had this happen? What did you do, what can we do??
We need an account that we can pay wages into, benefits and withdraw money from, surely it isnt that hard to find!!
We are both officialy discharged as we both got ED, we tried the post office for a card account but you dont get a debit card and canty have wages paid in
Any ideas? I'm at my wits end

is it not worth appealing against the decisions? in the meantime most of the pay as you go credit cards will take salary payments onto themWe all die. The goal isn't to live forever, the goal is to create something that will0 -
I spoke to the co-op who just said it was my own fault for not running my account properly, even tho it was because the DDs went out early the day before the wages went in!!
She said that i shouldve cancelled the DDs if i knew they were going to bounce but i said i didnt know that they were going out early so how could in know? she was horrible and smarmy and totally unhelpful or sympatheetic! sob!
she said it was too late now, its already been done.
Barclays said that the co-op had already reported it or put it on the report or something, but other than that she couldnt see why the account had declined....although i didnt mention BR to barclays, maybe i should have0 -
My Barclays application was declined. I phoned up and they offered to appeal it for me, and a week later, my Connect card came through the post.
Annoyingly, I've lost the card.0 -
the co-op also said that the BR advisor i spoke to when i set up the account told me i had to keep it in credit and no returns or else it would close.
I didnt speak to a BR advisor nor did i mention anything of the sort to anyone at the co-op and never have!! Obviosly they have been notified by the OR after it had happened, but until then they were none the wiseer.
She said i must have spoke to someone because that BR advisor had put a note on my acct to close immediatley without warning when i bounced something!!! You should have heard her sneer 'bankruptcy' at me!!0 -

Hi MollyBear
take a look at my thread I and so many others have had similar issues
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1515339&highlight=i+need+an+account
I have now joined ThinkBanking as I need an immediate solution but will, in time revert back to the high street ( either in the next 6 months or after AD)
Good luck0 -
Molly, was it a joint account that got closed, or just in your name?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0
-
It was a joint account0

Hi there
I can recommend the Halifax EasyCash account. They don't do any credit checks, it's a basic account, no overdraft, no chequebook, no debit card. You get a basic cash card, can do internet/telephone banking and set up direct debits.
I was discharged from bankruptcy four years ago but find that I'm still unable to get a 'proper' bank account. All the Halifax have required is my letter of discharge. This has been perfect and has enable me and my partner to have a joint account.
Thanks0 -
Thanks for the tip on Halifax, I will definatley look into having an account with them.
I did call back the co-op, and spoke to a much nicer woman
We can keep the account open but no DDs or standing orders, meaning paying everything by card - which is a hassle but not as much as having no account at all!!!! She said it's like a 3 month trial to see how we manage our money. Then maybe they will let us have dds and so's again.
She did say though if we were to bounce a card payment they would close it immediatley no questions asked and no mercy!!
It will make things a bit easier on the management side I supose, no DDs coming out early! And seeing as I'm paying everythin 'myself' instead of automatic DDs i will be more aware of what's going on!!
Although my faith in the bank is mostly lost now so I think I will aplly for another account just in case!
Thanks to all the advice and kind words, people on the forum never fail to help!
