    hi there,

Feeling a bit sad today, wondered if anyone has any advice/reassurance. :(

We were so keen for our baby to bond with dad as well as me, that he went to his Dad's chest for skin to skin, and they had a good old cuddle and look at each other. Now he's 2 weeks, he still seems to gaze right in DH's eyes, but doesn't hold my gaze at all, just flicks off to look above my head. Probably sounds really trivial, but I'm scared he's attached to DH and not me.:o

Did anyone else have this experience? What happened?

Oz never seemed to stare directly into my eyes - was always looking around my face or above my head - I think i read somewhere that they all do that - so I would try not to worry. Sorry cant write more, baby just woke, am sure others will be along with some advice.

    try not to worry xo

I really wouldn't worry, my husband held Elliot four about an hour after the birth while i was being stitched up and they bonded really well. But it didn't mean Elliot didn't want me as much :o

    keely.

PS-has anyone tried goodnight milk? Someone has suggested it for elliot now hes 6 months old, and is waking up earlier in the mornings hungry now (and half 4 really is too early for us!!). He is on two small meals a day, but he just seems hungrier in the morning, he wont eat food at his last feed as we do this when hes half asleep. So far i'm feeding him midday and teatime (evening).

We used Goodnight milk for about 6 months until he stopped drinking it. I think it really made a difference. I did find it was a little bit too thick so used one scoop less than recommended. It did give my nephew really bad wind.

Keely I use the night milk just beacuse it comes in a smaller box now Chris only has 4oz of it before bed (I do 4oz of formula with 5oz of cows milk as just cows doesn't seam to fill him enough)
It is thicker (thats how it keeps them asleep) so you need to use a bigger teat if ur not already or I know tommee tippee do a special teat for the CTN bottles just for night milk.
I personally don't think these milks are a good thing. but if chris had been waking like elliot I may have changed my mind!! :D;)

One minute Mammy is the best person in the world, then it's nobody but Daddy, then it's back to Mammy again and so on! I honestly don't think it's anything you've done wrong and I'm sure he is still attached to you just as much, they just change like the wind for some reason.

Wait until he is speaking and you get "I hate you, I'm going to see Dad" then 5 minutes later Dad tells him off for something, so he hates Dad and loves you
Here I go again on my own....

I never used night milk or follow on milk. Henry has a spoonful of Horlicks in his milk (7ozs) of a night. My MIL started it when she looked after him for a weekend last year and he loves it. Guess that helps him sleep through although have the same problem that he's starting to wake up about 5 so need to put the blackout bit of his curtains up soon.

Well i've just brought some to try tonight, morrisons had a pound off and i had a pound voucher so was cheap if it doesnt help!

why aren't they a good thing? just wondering?

he's always been a hungry baby, we switched him to hungrier milk quite early on as he obviously wasnt ready that early for any solids but too much milk just made him sick afterwards. but then he wasnt satisfied.

    Hi keeley

I think it's about it being a bit of a swizz, taking advantage of vulnerable parents. Our HV was certainly of the opinion that follow-on milks weren't worth what you pay for them as cow's milk would be just as 'good' for them. I'm not sure about the filling them up bit.

Also, some would say that follow-on milk is just a marketing trick as (I think I'm right in saying) it's illegal to advertise 'normal' formula milk for children under 6mths (as the gov't is so pro-breastfeeding) so companies cae up with the concept of followon milk which they CAN advertise. Not sure if I'm just recycling propaganda here, but as someone who works in public relations, it seems to make perfect sense.

    Does this help?

For the record, Imogen's never had follow-on milk and has been on cow's milk from about 7 months. She still loves her milk before bed and with breakfast, but at her age it's the food which keeps her full, rather than the liquids.
