Great 'Comping' Hunt. How to win competitions

Always pick up the free postcards at the cinema and bookshops - I got told to take a handful this morning at Borders 'cos they had thousands lol - I personally think theres more chance with postal comps as folks seem to prefer the easier internet option
I did that last night; after a free screening of the film Taken, I took a few free postcards to use for comping; I did work experience at a few mags and we did not get many postal entries. This is a bit pointless if there is the email option too but if it is postal only, it IS worth a go.0 -
There is also, as someone else mentioned, karma. I have benefitted from comps other people have posted here, so as well as thanking them, it is only fair to share comps I find...checking first that they have not already been posted.0

I'm pretty new to this so hope I'm posting in the right place, and hope these questions aren't too dense...
When you enter comps, how important is it to give them your telephone number if they have your address and email? It's just that I tend to screen my calls as I'm so tired of people phoning to sell me things. Usually if I don't answer it they don't leave a message. If I had won something and someone was trying to tell me, would I blow my chances by not taking that 'crucial' call?! Or would they be obliged to try and contact me via other methods?New Martin Lewis convert :beer:0 -

For email I just set up a free hotmail account.Gmail is also good as you can use it auto matically forward your mail to another account.
Regarding the number of wins ,I just see each win as a bonus and surely the odds are better than the lottery plus its free,0 -
My advice to anyone wanting to comp.....DON'T!
All of us here are a little bit mental, and probably a little obsessive. We have become addicted to entering comps and some even become clinically depressed when they don't win for a while LOL
Seriously though it is a hobby that takes hard work and dedication.
In 2008 I won £1713 worth of prizes. For that i put in approximately 1500 hours (or 4 hours per day EVERY day, working out at £1.14 per hour). I enter on average 50-500 comps per day and have calculated my win rate at being 1/1000 comps entered.
So as you can see, it can only really be worth it if YOU enjoy entering them, as for a supplement to income it really is better to get a part-time job! (i'd have earned £9k if i put those hours into a job!)2008 wins: £1713.20
2009 wins: Jan: Cadburys choc set £2, Book of rubbish ideas £6, Hair treatment £10 Feb: Xbox 360! £tbc
