went for a walk about round comet last night and the woman suggested a plasma for my needs, due to sport and not being too far from the screen
mainly the panasonic 37" TH-37PX8BA for £529
not managed to find it cheaper online yet0 -

Did you have a look on THEIR own website?
More often than not its cheaper!!:idea:0 -
Scratch that ~ its same price
But the one I pointed out to you from Richer Sounds is a better tv (Models different). Its WELL worth the 40 quid extra:idea:0 -
Well I think i may have finally decided, to get the 37PX80 PED
which Rik is the model you pointed out I think but with a slightly different base, i think thats all the PED part at the end means anyway
from littlewoods direct with a 10% discount and also an 8% discount through quidco, works out at a little under £500
contrast ratio is 15000 instead of the 10000 I was going for, did see this one in comet last night aswell for £650, had a shiny case to it where as the model I was looking at first had a more plain case, to be honest I dont mind either way as the plain case wouldnt have got soo dusty but with the discounts i'm getting a better tv for the same if not less money0 -
What im basically trying to say is if you had the Panasonic plasma at 'your home' and used it for 6 months it would almost certainly beat your CRT for picture quality.
Don't you mean after a few months you've got used to the second rate picture and forgotten how good your CRT used to be ?:D

Good call. If you need any help setting up etc give us a nudge:idea:0 -
Hi Rik
all ordered, with littlewoods discount and going through quidco it should cost me £480 in total
settings wise what have you gone for, all i found was:
Check your SKY box is set to 16:9 not 4:3 and RGB not PAL in the picture settings in the service menu and press save.
viewing mode: cinema
contrast 2 clicks left
brightness 1 click left
colour 3 clicks right
sharpness 1 click left
colour balance warm
colour management off
P NR off
power save off0 -
Youll find that plasmas tend to change over the first 6 months viewing. Colour balance should be neutral
Geta hold of a THX set disc to set contrast, brightness and sharpness through your dvd player
http://www.thx.com/home/dvd/search.html
Set colours as high as possible so that skin looks natural and not red or orange
I would recommend a THOR scart cable for your sky and a hdmi upscaling dvd player.
And a mains conditioner to filter out mains noise ~

(The conditioner is WELL worth it)
I know this is extra cash, just food for thought:idea:0 -
Get Digital Video Essentials from HMV for £4.99 rather than the THX ones, as they are specific to the film they come bundled with. I've found DVE to give a good calibration, well, as good as you can do by eye..0
