I have just sent off some stuff to them... the stickers took a few days to arrive so assuming the payment will take a bit of time... no hurry though.

It's interesting the prices they pay, I assume it must be down to stock levels, e.g. how much of a particular item they already have because some of the older, more obscure CDs that I assumed nobody would want to buy in a million years (and WHAT was I thinking when I bought them?!) were the ones fetching £2-3 and the more mainstream stuff either less than £1 or nothing at all.

I listed loads of stuff on the website but decided not to send off everything that I listed, only the more high value stuff so I made a note on the order sheet what I was sending, took the box down to the post office to a look of fear from the guy behind the counter(!) and looking forward to the cheque!

I am trying both filmvault and magpie at the moment.
16cd's and dvd's on each to see who's best.

filmvault sent me a very long e-mail very quickly saying the price offered was less than £20 so it wasn't worth their courier being sent out but I've added another 15 Robert De Niro dvd's so am waiting to see.

Magpie are giving 25p for some cd's and 33p for a dvd. I'd rather use them as coasters:rolleyes:

    Never thought of asking Blockbusters.

Just had another very nice e-mail from filmvault upping the price offered to £34-37p but it's still not enough to get a courier out, they want me to add another 12 dvd's or 15cd's to give a worthwhile price and so pick-up.

Weird, as I haven't got any other dvd's and who's to say they want my cd's.
strange they don't give a price for each individual item as Magpie do.
  • I think the musicmagpie site is a great way to get rid of old stuff you are never going to look at again. Ebay is such a hassle and most CD's DVD'd will only sell for 99p each if they sell at all and then you need to pay listing fees, paypal fees and package them all up individually and take them down the post office. No thanks, £100 for things I'm not gonna miss and they are taken away in one go is fine by me! :)

I also noticed that the older, obscurere something was the more I got for it, even if it was rubbish lol. The max paid for CD's/DVD's is £3 and £10 for games so if you think the particular thing you are selling is worth more than that then don't bother. new games, CD's and DVD's especially will sell better in Blockbuster/Ebay.
  • I put a load of DVD's onto Magpie las night just to see what they would offer. Any I think I can get more for on Amazon I have put up on there, ebay is too much hassle for the amount I am getting rid of. The only thing to remember is Amazon take a hefty fee so factor this in and if its not worth it Magpie them.
  • Sent off two boxes of DVDs at the end of January valued at £46.01. Waiting for the
cheque. They were all in good condition, some still in the plastic, so should be no problem:rolleyes:.
I will keep you posted as to results.
  • they do seem to be taking a while nowadays to pay out people..

I sent two large padded jiffy bags full of CDs and DVDs to them on 3/2/09 with their barcoded stickers on them but have not yet had any confirmation that they've either been receieved or that my cheque is on the way! I e-mailed last week and they said they hadn't receieved them and have e-mailed again today as the order status on their website still just says "Pending".

Hopefully not lost in the post!! If they are I have the certificates of posting but I was hoping it would take less time than this.

I used the Film Vault to sell some other DVDs of a higher value and I had a personal phone call from them, friendly chap on the other end of the phone, prompt pickup by courier and could track online to make sure they'd been signed for at the other end. They say I should receive the cheque by Saturday. Had nothing from MM except a few e-mail confirmations (automated) and a sheet of stickers in the post.

Cheque for the full amount arrived this morning:j, I have another dozen or so so might get a price for those too.
  • I wouldnt bother with Music Magpie. I have just sent some DVD's and CD's they gave me pittance and didnt even send me the money for one DVD claiming the cover was ripped. It was a Disney one worth £4 on there. It is a rip off as they dont send the DVD back just keep it.
    Thieves if you ask me.
