Music Magpie: new quick way to sell unwanted CDs

I saw the posts about Music Magpie and I'm going to give that a go, but my main problem is my books! I have several hundred of them that I'm never going to read again, and my D is growing and needs more space in our flat so I need to get rid of them quite quickly. I've tried GreenMetropolis, but nothing has sold on there yet, and may not ever. While I had a well-paid job, books were my luxury so I have loads and they are in pretty much perfect condition. The idea of giving them away when they cost £6.99 - £17.99(!) upsets me too much to go down the charity shop route. I've tried Ebay, but the advertising costs when the item doesn't sell seems such a waste. Car boot sale just had folk roughing up the books and then not buying any (or being rude that I wanted £1 for a just-published as new hardback that cost £14.99!). I know there's an American company with a similar service to Music Magpie but for books, but there's no-one in the UK, is there?0

you could try www.greenmetropolis.com
you get £3 for every book you sell. Just post it on the site and leave it on your shelf.
Amazon is always another alternative but you will get less money from that.
or if you want you could try www.bookmooch.com
I have used it since it first began, it is basically a site where you can swap books.0 -

My boyfriend recently used Music Magpie and wasn't too happy with the service. It all seemed so easy and straightforward in the beginning and like a lot of people here have already mentioned, it's much less hassle than Ebay or Amazon. He got the pre-paid postage envelopes quickly but unfortunately, it took a few weeks for his cheque to come through and when it finally did, it wasn't the full amount! They had taken off a few pounds as some of the CD's weren't 'up to standard' Music Magpie don't make you aware of this or give you the opportunity to get your CD back. My boyfriend has said that he won't use them again and neither will I. I'm going to stick with Ebay and Amazon as I'll be in control. Just be aware that what you get quoted, may not be exactly what they pay out :mad:0

If you read the FAQ's, they do make this clear:Is the price quoted the price I’ll get?
No, this price could change if any of your CDs fail quality inspection. We charge up to 50p per CD if it is not in perfect playing condition as a refurbishment fee, and 25p per CD if the case is broken.
You say my discs are scratched, what happens next?
We will deduct up to 50p per disc as a refurbishment charge. All discs are non-returnable, and our assessment is final.
How do I know if one of my CDs is too damaged before I send it to you?
The best way of checking is to look at the playing surface of the disc. If the disc has a lot of scratches, or one or two deep scratches, then it is unlikely to pass our quality inspection.
Do I get unwanted CDs back?
No. Due to the high volume of CDs that we receive, we are unable to return any unacceptable CDs.

I always make sure I read terms and conditions etc very thoroughly before agreeing to anything.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Have to say I had no problem with them.... yes it took around 4 weeks to process, but then I did send 77 CD's. I got exactly the full amount they said (just under £157) but I've always taken good care of my albums, anyone who borrows from me and returns something with fingerprints or worse doesn't get to borrow again!
Remember, these cd's have to be fit to be sold on to other folk buying from the site - you wouldn't be happy to spend a fiver on a second hand cd only to find it scratched, or the case cracked, or the insert in poor condition, so it's well worth thoroughly checking any you're thinking of sending off to them, and yes, as Newlywed suggests, read the faqs as well!Debt problems? It's never too late to get help - just ask the friendly folk on this forum! :grouphug:0 -

Does anyone know if there is maximum number of CDs you can send in one package? Got 90 odd CDs to send and I have one box they all fit in but I thought there was a limit of 50 per box you send in but cant find any mention of that on their site..0

I've just signed up for this. Should get roughly £24 for my first trade that I'm going to send when I get the label through. Very pleased :j Sounds like I'll just have to be patient waiting for it to go through. I hear what you are saying BigC+WeeS. Theres no point sending in cd's that are in bad condition expecting to get the money for them.0
