The Thank you button appears in other people's posts in your thread - embedded in their signature line to the right as below when reading the thread (not once you are in the "reply to thread") - HTH

I've been lucky regarding mention of overpayment and offsetting at work, but I simply note our effective interest rate (about 3%) and paying off up to 9yrs early and they don't argue much, especially when you also note that when we started out in 1994 we allowed for a 5% INCREASE in interest rates against the then prevailing 8% rate which was so low compared to the average 13% of the previous 20yrs with assumption of no pay rise (that was the last recession of course)
Attitudes may change now, with people becoming more aware of vulnerability to redundancy, low pay rises and a need to "live within their means" which has prevailed in the last decade. Of course, it is all about balanced portfolios and planning. But no matter what they say outside, here you're amongst friends so we can all be "deluded" together
Do try to persevere with the spreadsheet, I think in combination with all your efforts now it will allow you to see the complete spend and saving profile, and total position. It hopefully will confirm things like your flexibility in budgeting vs your commitments/wishes such as holiday and you won't miss things that happen annually.
Like many of our diaries, you may want to note key items to be addressed, targets you want to hit etc and note progress along the way.

I think the missing 'Thanks' button may have gone off to look for smileys yesterday as it wasn't there for me either, although I was logged in. It reappeared when smileys reappeared so in my little mind the 2 things are linked.
PS If I'm right, shame it didn't find my marbles when it found the smileys

Welcome MissusF :hello:A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Hi, Really enjoying your diary. I don't have one but am an addicted MFW OPayer and love updating my sig.
Keep up the good work. There's so many fabulous tips on here and folks are really helpful.
Keep an eye on the what small thing shall i do today thread on this forum as you can get good ideas for little things that save money which can be put towards overpaying
Also there's a thread that get's bumped every month or so for things that you should remember to do (like check direct debits, check your ISAs, savings accounts etc are the best ones, reminds you to use quidco/topcashback etc)
Then, of course browse round all the other forums for ideas that save you money, all of which can be used for overpaying.
I picked up a tip buried in a thread that was really useful as it has allowed me to pay my monthly mortgage payemtn using my cashback credit card (Abbey mortgages only) so I will be getting 1% back!
So, just keep reading and keep the motivation sky high!MS Stalwart. Used site for >10 years :jMake Do, Mend and Minimise member - focussing on upcycling/repurposing and sewing0 -
DH had a nightmare of a day trying to get rid of our tarmac drive - local council has a policy of one bag per day, but wouldn't take some of it, then battery died in van. Then went to another place, don't take tarmac. Then van battery died. Went to another place - £10 a load (we had 4 loads) NO!!! That infringes on my MS mission...then van died. Luckily, DH carries jump leads (in car BTW, lol). Finally managed to donate the tarmac to local allotment (no, it wasn't flytipping lol! They need it to even out the drive/pathway that leads to the allotments.) Total spend: £10 diesel. (and DH'd energies, bless him :A ).
Freecycled sooo much stuff that isn't sellable, so saved petrol to skip / charity shops / anywhere really
(Mind you, that wasn't why i freecycled)
WHilst de-cluttering, i found an old purse WITH £1.80 in!!! W-hoooooo!!!
(I wonder what i'd save with that OP.....)
Sold 2 mobile phones on web, netting £64, and listed items on ebay - hopefully £100 if i get min. bids.
Rang up to get quote on drive gravel - £80 for 2 tonne. Add that to the whacker plate, the drive is coming in at £104! £46 under the original £150! Double W-hooo!!!
Had to put drive materials on CCard, but will put all of earnings from today back into it.
Now off to try for the £5 M&S voucher to buy me some towels (to make into an elephant) for an extra baby bathtime hamper.

I'm aware that at the beginning of this quest, there'll be big changes, that'll probably plateau off after a while, i just hope i dont lose momentum and motivation.
TTFN x
Lose momentum, doubt it, you will get addicted to this so be warned.
If you join the MFW 2008 thread you can get yourself an official no and no doubt there will be a 2009 thread to keep us all cheery if we have squeezed the lemon pips until they squeaked. Note, first grate your lemon and freeze the peel for later use - a tip I picked up on the Thrifty board
We will be joining you on the overpaying as soon as all our paperwork goes through. Great glee
