  • ok, so another update (i doubt i'll be doing this many diary entries 2 years into it - it would be the longest diary ever!!!)

Had a lightbulb moment - pay ccard with savings to lower amount of interest on it...dur....:o

can't do the whole lot though cos i need to have £560 in the savings to transfer into the bills account til DH's S/O reaches the joint account. but, it's a definite dent in the card. Can pay that off sooner, then hammer savings ready for feb....

    well, thats the plan.......

    off to update sig x

  • thanks setme, evab and sml! Have had the time over this past week to really make some changes with being off work, and once i get an idea in my head, i'm a !!!!!!.

Feeling a bit deflated today (could be the medication), but mentioned this to a couple of people that aren't convinced paying off mortgage early is achievable, realistic, etc. It's made me quite defensive actually - i've put alot of work this past weekend into making changes, thinking about realistic budgets, researching products, etc. I'm certainly not about to 'rush into' anything, as i can't do owt til i'm out of fixed term anyway.

think i'm gonna keep gob shut, head down, and plough on.

Hopefully i'll feel less deflated tomorrow!

    Hi MissusF,

I find money and mortgages can sometimes be a bit of a taboo subject with colleagues or friends. The accepted fact appears to be that we bump along with our mortgage at our lenders terms.

Erm, nope – that doesn’t have to be the case. Don't let them get you down.

Great to see a new diary. This MF board is a good place to think out loud or get answers to queries you have. Hope you do well in your aims! :D

I’ll try and follow your progress…

    Hi MissusF :hello:

I've had that too. The few people I've mentioned overpaying my mortgage looked at me as if I'd lost my marbles or thought I'm mad and throwing my money away  . I tend not to mention outside of here anymore. I just know I'll be the one smiling quietly to myself when I'm (finally) mortgage free - having saved myself a decent chunk of interest in the process! :D

    Good luck with your quest!

  • MissusF - are you able to transfer your CC debt over to a 0% deal so you can hold on to your cash fort a bit longer? That was part of my "master plan" at the beginning of all this. Just remember to keep an eye on how the CC company arrange your payments as you have to be sure to clear the full balance prior to the end of the 0% period or you'll get stitched up with interest!

Good luck with your quest anyway - you sound superbly motivated and determined - as for the doubters, well, it's their loss if they dont want to take your idea on board really, isn't it!

Yup... as taka says, I don't really mention it at work or to my family (I told my brother when I made my very first OP and his response was "Why?" ).

    But you're safe here ;)
  • i cant see thankyou buttons, so thanks guys for the encouragement and supprt - i agree, money is always taboo. It's great being able to air stuff here though, so thank you x x x

essex - i have thought about 0% ccard and applied for one online beg of june, but was given a higher interest rate. (DH has had adverse credit in the past, so i'm not sure if that is linked to the house??) we also had a mortgage refusal right back at the beg of the yr - again, defo due to DH... we did a credit report, found the source (an old student o/d unpaid - eek!) so we wrote to them and offered them part payment, so we managed to clear all his debts. i'm also conscious of trying again for the 0% as we want to get a new mortgage product in Feb, and am i right in thinking each time you apply for credit, your score is 'knocked down'? (Plus we have the 3,800 loan that was agreed in aug - man alive, i wish i'd come to this forum sooner!!!!!!)

Positive penny piching things i've done today - cooked a creative meal with odds and sods (amazing - chilli hides the flavour of anything!!lol!), going to in laws for a meal later this week, and sorted out some stuff for ebay (and freecycled the rest)

oh, and a development which could set us back £150 - DH wants to get drive done before bad weather sets in and whilst he's off (i do too!!!). I'm thinking get that out the way now, then it's done, then all house-to-do's have been to-done.

    TTFN x x x

    ps - feeling a bit more in-flated ! lol!
