How many servings should I be getting from 500g of mince if I bulk it out? I made chilli con carne with kidney beans and chick peas (per Jamie Oliver!) and put some lentils in too and I've got 9 servings....is that good or not?

I get 12 servings, using red lentils, and lots of vegetables :D

    Penny. x

I think if I'd had any mushrooms in and some sweetcorn I could have just about got 12 servings from it. I'll remember that for next time . Thank you!

It'll be fine as long as the chicken was cooked through and then cooled pretty quickly.
  • Hi, how do you make plain scones? - I made some with a recipie on the net and it just turned to glue, I even tried cooking it and it turned to rock! I want plain scones so that I can have either sweet or savoury fillings.
    Thanks!

Last year and this we have bought a real tree which the local farm shop stand in a piece of sliced tree trunk. When we moved the tree last year there was a stain which with a bit cleaning and over the year has faded.

This year I put a piece of cardboard underneath, however not only is there a stain from the sap, there must have been some sort of red dye in the cardboard. So I now have red stained tree sap ona beige/fawn carpet.

Anyone any ideas of how to remove?

I'm afraid I have no idea, but next year I'd have clear polythene under the tree trunk!

I'd start by using plain cold water and blotting a lot with an old white towel, moving the towel to a clean section each time. It's surprising how much comes out with that, usually. And you're unlikely to 'set' the stain or make it any worse, anyway.

From 400g steak mince I get 5-7 servings, this is bulked out with onion (1 med or large), carrot (1-2 med/large), pepper (standard size) and 1 tin toms/1 jar passatta (sp?), sometimes mushrooms/courgettes also, so this would be 1.25 servings per 100g mince, in other words 6.25 servings per 500g. I can eke it further sometimes (eg adding kidney beans and more peppers to make chilli), but tbh I am quite hapy with this. We don't add lentils or oats as it spoils it imho. I think you did quite well tbh :T.
