Lighter fluid should be able to get it off. Available from newsagents or Somerfield from cigarette kisok in small cans about £1 I think.Bargain_Rzl wrote: »Hello OldStylers - Is there an OS method of removing adhesive-label gunk from my new wooden rolling pin? Hi Bargain Rzl,
I usually use wd 40 to remove sticky stuff but if it's a wooden rolling pin that might not be a great idea. This thread has lots of ideas:
sticky label removal

Thanks billieboy - though is it safe to use on something which is porous (wood) and will be coming into direct contact with food? I mean, obviously I'd thoroughly wash it afterwards, but even so...

Pink - thanks for the link. Having read all the way through that thread, it still doesn't specifically mention wood - but some of the options do at least sound food safe. I'll try a couple of things I already have (Stardrops and, er, vodka) when I get home today, and if those don't work, I'll have a look at eucalyptus oil.

I think lighter fluid just evaporates but don't quote me on that. Sorry I can't be more helpful:o . Have you tried scrubbing with a hard nail brush?Bargain_Rzl wrote: »Thanks billieboy - though is it safe to use on something which is porous (wood) and will be coming into direct contact with food? I thought I'd seen it somewhere.....squeaky recommends cooking oil here and here so maybe that would be worth a go rather than wasting vodka!

What about a baby wipe? It can be OS as you could get a cheap supermarket own range pack for about £1. Obviously rinse well afterwards so you don't get baby wipe flavour pastry!Bargain_Rzl wrote: »Hello OldStylers - Is there an OS method of removing adhesive-label gunk from my new wooden rolling pin? PERSONALLY I wouldn't use eucalyptus oil on a rolling pin, because if it does 'sink in' I'm not sure you'll ever get it out and your pastry will taste of Vick or Karvol ever after. But then I really really don't like the smell of that stuff, and only use it if I haven't been able to breathe for an extended period.Bargain_Rzl wrote: »and if those don't work, I'll have a look at eucalyptus oil.
Would rubbing it with blu-tak work? I would probably be scraping it off with my fingernails ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Nail Polish remover is great for getting rid of stubborn sticky stuff - just remember to use acetone-free :cool:0
