    Hiya,

I'll answer the question, but I don't like tea :D however, OH is quite happy with Sainsburys Basic at 24p a box or there abouts.

However, as you said that you don't like Basic, then the next range up iirc are Red Label in Sainsburys, I'd try these and see how you get on.

Also, more often than not, Poundland have tetley one cups, 100 for a quid, which is only 1p a cuppa - I feel you can't beat that for flavour and vfm. :)

this isn't an answer, it's another question! What do you usually do / plan to do with your light brown sugar? We'll then be able to tell you if cane sugar will do the job (I'd be surprised if it didn't!)

I have just made a batch of pies and the spare bag of flour I thought was plain is in fact SR. Is there any other flour I can make shortcrust pastry with other than plain? I have white and wholemeal bread flour and white and a bit of wholemeal SR.

    Thanks

Xspender I had SR by mistake at Christmas and after googling went ahead and used it for shortcrust, it was fine (mince pies). Not quite the same, but fine.

Thanks for your answers. In the end I wrapped them and put them in the fridge and sent DH for a bag of plain when he went to get some beer. Good to know for next time though.
