This is more of a philosophical enquiry, because I've done it by eye and weighed them raw and unpeeled, BUT when a recipe calls for cooked potatoes and you're cooking them special like, how do you know how much they'll weigh once they are cooked?
Or do the rest of you regularly more than have 1.5 lbs of cooked potatoes sitting in your fridges from which you can extract the required amount?
You'll need to ask Student Phil, then :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
I just guessIt's only really for baking that I routinely weigh out things

In the spirit of scientific enquiry, I did try weighing my empty saucepan, and then weighing it again with the cooked, drained potatoes in. The cooked potatoes seemed to have increased in weight significantly, but then I realised I'd forgotten to take the lid off.And then I couldn't remember whether my saucepan weighed nearly 2 lb or nearly 3 lb, and my brain wouldn't subtract lb and oz properly.
I could weigh the empty saucepan again now, but I can't remember what it weighed with the cooked potatoes in.
I think they were heavier once cooked, which you'd expect because they'll have absorbed some water. However, 1.5 lb raw potato looks about right for a shepherds pie for 4, and once it's cooked it is about right. So all is well ...Penelope_Penguin wrote: »I just guessIt's only really for baking that I routinely weigh out things
BTW, it's a relief to discover that even the true old stylers don't routinely have more than 1.5 lb of cooked potatoes in their fridges waiting for such an occasion ... :rotfl:Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Can you make a victoria sandwich in one cake tin? Family is saying to just make the cake, cut in half, then stick back together with jam.0
