Poor you! That sounds really painful. I hope you heal quickly.
It looks like the best solution with corned beef is either to have the tin hot or chilled - room temperature (as mine was) might be exactly the wrong way of going about it. In future, though, I might buy the ready sliced stuff - it probably works out more expensive, but it's going to be much less painful.Back after a very long break!0 -
I think I'll live, I had to ask for the first aid kit though as they were bleeding a bit. And they are REALLY sore! But as you see, I can still type, so all is well. Plasters are off and they're not bleeding any more. Not too deep, fortunately.Signature removed for peace of mind0

zippychick wrote: »Elf I've not been able to find the SC specific recipe, but there is a general thread about sweet and sour which you should easily be able to adapt for the slow cooker. I would use just over half the recommended liquid (as you don't lose any), start it off as the recipe says, brown your meat etc then chuck all in the SC. Sorry. not being specific as I am off to read that thread now

Thats great thank you!! There is one I found at the beginning of the GC but didnt see the whole thread on sweet and sour.
They all look great and may have to use the 2nd one (not the cola one as i tried it in the past and was a total disaster :rotfl:).
The problem is I have a specific recipe in mind that used sherry in it and I went out and bought a bottle specifically for this purpose - any other alcohol would just get drunk in this situation but sherry????? Bleurch :rotfl:Emma

Oh flip, bless you buying a whole bottle of sherry! Trifle perhaps? As long as you have found the recipe, that's the main thing M'lady
How can i use up port and sweet sherry
Right, my silly question. Fish sauce - does it taste fishy or is it to acconpany fish or what's the story with it? I know it's used in thai cooking a lot.... just wondered.
I actually feel embarassed to ask that.....:oA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I have such sympatyh for 'corned beef fingers' my DD grated the tips of her fingers on her new and blindingly sharp microplane grater, arrrrgh......
Hope fingers heal quickly !
Silly question about Freecycling: I e mailed the administrator locally to ask, and he/she has ignored me (really puts me off) but I have stuff I want to say goodbye to so have to persevere. My question was : do people register in their own names or use made-up ones ? The local freecycle site doesn't let you see anything until you've registered so there's no clue there. What do people on here do please ?
Zippychick - fish sauce (nam pla) smells DISGUSTING and has to be used with caution, but a small amount does make thai etc recipes taste really nice - it's very mysterious since the smell is so foul !0 -
Hi Morganlefay
Thanks for the fish sauce infoIt sounds vile you see, so that's what made me ask, but i know it's used a lot in thai cooking. Must look out the thread later on and read up more.
I am registered on freecycle and use my real details. My personal email address and my proper name. Can I ask why you would want to use a fake name? Sorry if that's silly... I don't genuinely know if there is a ruling against such things, and thinking out loud, if I set myself up as Ozzy Osbourne, no one on freecycle would know any different (well, until they came to meet me)
There is a guy in the Belfast group who has two email addresses he uses, and it is fairly obvious it is the same person. I think some people do this to manipulate the system and get more asks etc? Anyway, I'm not sure if I have answered - I don't know the official rules, but they're just my thoughts.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

Alternatives to washing powder
Help need washing but run out of powder
one more -This is the recipe: (which I got from http://www.thefrugalshopper.com/articles/detergent.shtml )
Powdered Laundry Detergent
1 Cup Grated Fels Naptha Soap (<---- I'm going to be using some old soap ends which would normally be thrown away)
1/2 Cup Washing Soda
1/2 Cup Borax
For light load, use 1 tablespoon. For heavy or heavily soiled load, use 2 tablespoons.
My measuring cup is an old beaker and I shall be storing it in the old well known brand box
