Right - where does a washing machine get its hot water from? Is it from my gas heating (which is currently disconnected, so hence needing to know - would rather not put it on unless i know the wash will be proper!)

    Any ideas? Silly?

If it just has one pipe then it will only use cold water and will heat it up. If it has two pipes then it will take hot water when it needs it from the hot water sytem in your house. However if for whatever reason the hot water in your pipes isn't hot enough, then it should heat the water to the right temperature. So your washing machine will still wash at the right temp, but may just cost a bit more in electricity to heat it.

Can anyone help me, please - how do you get corned beef out of its tin? After 20 minutes' struggle, all I've achieved is a badly cut thumb, a very bent spoon, and three quarters of the corned beef still stuck in the tin.

Any ideas how I can get it out, preferably without shedding any more blood? ;)

Can you remove the top with a normal tin opener and push it out! The other way would be to warm the tin in a pan of hot water, but if you've already opened the tin you'd end up with soggy corned beef!
Be careful not to cut yourself again!:(

    Thanks Pink and Tim!

Ccp , poor you! might sound silly but have you tried using a knife to cut it and pop bits out? I don't use corned beef much

Thanks zippy and aliadds. I've removed the top with a tin opener (which is how I cut myself in the first place :o) and have managed to removed the top quarter or so by cutting it into bits - that got enough out so at least I've had some dinner. I'll try soaking the tin in some hot water to see if that helps get the rest out - if it doesn't I might be very un-OS and give up, at least until tomorrow - I'm in no mood to fight with it just now.

regards soggy corned beef - dont worry. My Mum used to make sandwiches of boiled tomatoes, onion and corned beef and they were gorgeous so im sure we can think of some sort of use for it. Don't let it grind you down! smiley-hug001.gif

I wonder would Pink know what I'm talking about - not sure if it was a regional thing, but Mum called them Mock crab sandwiches?! *confused smiley*

Update - thank you aliadds!! After 20 minutes in a hot bath the corned beef came out fairly easily - it's slightly soggy, but still usable. :)

Your mum's sandwiches sound intriguing, zippy - it was always corned beef and Branston when I was a kid (which, oddly enough, is exactly what I've got planned for my newly-rescued corned beef ;)).

Yay! Happy , good for you!

Actually, to be frank, they sound disgusting, but as a kid they were gorgeous. I think there may have been salad cream in but that's debatable.! Well done you again!

Just a thought, but had you chilled the tin first? It 'carves' better when it's cold, and in my experience is slightly easier to get out too.

My 'technique' is to get DH to do it, after my own badly cut thumb experience*, but if I had to, I would use the key bit, then open the other end with a tin opener, and push through.

*Which does at least get you off the washing up rota for a bit!
