I made some fudge the other day which needed demerara, it is a bit less refined than the granulated and less fine than the light brown sugar. I would probably use half of each in the recipe. The texture might be a little bit different but if you make sure it is melted it should be fine. Enjoy!

It would be really nice in a sponge cake with some fruit in it or mixed with the fruit at the bottom of a crumble (rhubarb and orange is a delicious combo!). It should be something you can use to replace golden syrup etc so I would try it in something like flapjack like for like...

What an excellent idea. Thanks so much!

  • I'm trying to use up the stuff in my fridge before I go away over Christmas. Got plans for most of it but I'm stuck with a tub of natural yoghurt. Can this be frozen? Am making some parnsip soup for lunch so will use a spoonful in that. Any other ideas?

    Thanks for your help!

Hiya! yes you can freeze it. I use an ice cube tray and measure how much one ice cube is - mine are 2 tablespoons. Write on the bag how much a cube is and fill the bag once frozen. Ready to add straight to recipes.

You can also flavour it - flavours for natural yog

Thanks for that, zippy - for some strange reason , I thought you couldn't freeze Natural Yoghurt ! My local Asda nearly always has large pots of the stuff on whoopsie so now I know that I can get them to use up :j.
  • Thanks. Think I will try freezing it. Don't want to buy anything more to flavour it with and am very low on food!

No worries Ollie. I used natural yoghurt mixed with mayo to make a crisp dip a week or so ago. Was yummy!

It may go all separated when you defrost it, so it's not always servable as yoghourt in polite company. But stirred into soup etc no-one will ever know.

If you don't have old-fashioned scales with weights (which I don't), the possibilities are endless - a plate with a pile of books on top if it's round, for example.
