I've often used eating apples as 'cooking apples' - you just don't need any sugar in them.
I do them in the microwave - in a pyrex bowl, lid on, a little bit of water and ping for about 2mins. Check and see if they need a bit longer. After that, I'd just give them 30sec bursts till right. Allow to cool and use as Apple Sauce, Apple Pie filling etc.
I also freeze them in small tubs and can be used with plain yoghurt - HM fruit corners .0 -
Hey all
Two quick questions from me:
1. can you freeze long life milk? the UHT carton stuff? I know you can freeze normal milk but never tried UHT.
2. Chilli's - I have 12 very small chilli's in my fridge at moment. I'm off on a 3 weeks holiday shortly so won't use them all up before I go. Any suggestions on how not to waste them? Can I chop them and freeze to use to add to meals at later date?
TIA

Usually Long-life milk has a use-by date of around 6mths when you buy it. I've never had to think about freezing it. I usually keep about 6 cartons in a cupboard to stop me going into the supermarket for milk and spending £20 on bits I don't need. If yours has a good use-by date, I wouldn't waste valuable freezer space with it.

I'm sure that you CAN chop and freeze them - or even perhaps freeze them whole if they're the small ones. Have to admit though, that I've never done it myself - not that fond of fresh chillis.
TIA

Thanks Olliebeak.
The reason I ask re the UHT milk is that I only use this. I'm not a fan of milk so find this tastes less milk like IYKWIM. I go on holiday for 3 weeks on Thurs morning and will probably still have third of a cartoon left so don't want to waste it really!

aaaah see what you mean now
- taking a while for the penny to drop with me today
. Suppose it's worth a try - nothing ventured, nothing gained. Or you could use it to make something and freeze the result
.

I suppose I'll give it a go!
Another question - I am making stuffed peppers and normally use an egg to bind the stuffing mixture (breadcrumbs, peas, onions etc) but I've just hard boiled my last two eggs without thinking!! Doh! What can I use instead? Does it need a binding ingredient?

I've used a packet of savoury rice or cous cous in the past.

Thanks all!
It would be really nice in a sponge cake with some fruit in it or mixed with the fruit at the bottom of a crumble (rhubarb and orange is a delicious combo!). It should be something you can use to replace golden syrup etc so I would try it in something like flapjack like for like...God is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day
