  • Well, I'm supposed to be on a year-long challenge of not buying any new clothes. That lasted for 8 months, and then I succumbed to a new cosy cardigan for the cold winter that lies ahead. So I'd like to ban myself from buying clothes for another one hundred days - and magazines, too.

Great idea! I'm signing up to the make-up challenge.
I'll probably be able to cheat though. 3 daughters who flew the nest left behind enough toiletries/cosmetics to supply a small country!!
My wastefullness has been put into perspective recently anyway by DH going to Africa where millions literally don't know where their next meal is coming from and they watch relatives die from simple preventable diseases - let alone HIV-AIDS.
    Sorry, rant over..............

    wow good challenge!!!

I am going to stay away from Clothes (we all have plenty), toys for boys (apart from ds birthday and xmas pressies), magazines and ebay!!!
  • I will join in, i have far to many vices, cosmetics, chocolate and costume jewellery all of which when added together will be a nice sum for christmas. I also have enough to last me a life time (apart from chocolate). Never joined any of the challenges so this will be a real test.

Okay - but i guess 100 days now takes me to Christmas day! I will give up buying sweets and chocolate, magazines, make-up and clothes. I'd like to add shoes, but think I'm going to find I need one new pair to wear at work, but apart from that...
I think it'll be the sweets and chocolate which will be the hardest, but may have a benefit for my waistline too!
I'd like to try to save the cost of what I would have spent into my piggy bank - so will count what's in it tonight and then work out what I've saved by Christmas - another incentive!
    Good luck everyone!
    Resolution:
    Think twice before spending anything!

(believe me this isn't any easy one for me)

That sounds like an excellent idea Cherie, I'll join you on the chocolate challenge and add sweets too.

I've started using up one of my half finished moisturisers, I guess I'm not going to look 20 years younger by swapping products all the time (I'm such a sucker for the ads, are the ad-men going to miss me, or what?:rotfl:) And I'm going to have room in my bathroom cabinet and a spare drawer and an empty basket.....

  • Thanks for posting a great challenge Magni - after loitering on this site for about a year you have inspired me to finally join in!

I have two boxes (and we're talking crates not shoe boxes) of assorted cosmetics and toiletries in my cupboard. I just can't seem to resist the special offers.................. Anyway, I pledge to not to buy any at all until after Christmas (no matter how good value they are). I certainly have enough to keep me going.

    Good luck everyone.

    Hope everyone's doing okay!!

I was just about to go out and get this weeks heat magazine this morning until I remembered the challenge! Is it just me or have everything I've sworn off just become more tempting?? :rotfl:

going to be a real challenge on friday when me and my boyfriend go shopping, we're going to lakeside in doncaster where they have a cadburys shop and thorntons cafe.
  • I've been watching this thread for a bit and finally got enough courage to jump in. I've been trying to give up buying cosmetics and toiletries now for about a year, but it's my real weakness, I always seem to find an excuse to buy them. I have tried making some of my own things recently, face masks and things like that, which has been really satisfying because it's all from kitchen cupboard items. I'll post some of the recipes if anyone's interested?

So I'll be giving up ALL rubbish snacks (leaving me with just fruit I guess) - thanks for a great challenge!
