I really need to make a concerted effort NOW - before Christmas arrives. If not, then it will be the same as last year - lovely pics but with piles of clutter in the background of EVERY shot of the grandkids. Also, I do not want to be shoving 'stuff' off the dining table so that I can set the table to have Christmas Lunch :o .

Today I promise that I will remove everything from underneath the coffee table; clear the top of the computer cabinet; clear the tops of both fridge/freezers (things get put there out of reach of the grandkids - might even find my kitchen timer that I had to 'rescue' one day!). It will then all be gone through to identify recycling, rubbish and necessary items. Recycling and rubbish will go in their appropriate bins and the 'necessaries' will be put in their official places/filing cabinet.

I'm also thinking about the 'junk drawer' - but I think one step at a time. Don't want to over-face myself at this stage! Anyway, that is out of sight so can be 'out of mind' for now :D.

But TODAY IS THE DAY. It's the start of the school holidays here in Scotland and I promised DD that she would be changing bedrooms with us by the time she was 7. Her birthday is on Saturday next. So today I am stripping our bedroom out. There are boxes ready in the hall for stuff for the charity shops and dump. There is ONE box marked Ebay. There is a modest space in the hall for the junk----er, essentials that I am going to keep. Idea is that I clear my room of everything but the furniture by tomorrow. Then we move her in (also via the charity shop bags) then swap the beds by Friday.

Well, so far so good. I've not totally cleared my bedroom but I've boxed all the movable stuff up and tucked it into the varoious piles.

    Out:
    One binbag of rubbish
Three large carrier bags of knitting magazines to take to our local craft recycling project.
One binbag of clothes and general junk for the charity shop. There are two BNWT pieces of M&S clothing in there so I'll make a point of taking this bag to the Oxfam shop to get a £5 M&S voucher for them.

    In.
Nothing for the bedroom move, though I have bid on a badly needed wardrobe on Ebay.
Large carrier bag of assorted toiletries from Boots. In my defence they were all posh brands reduced to 20p per bottle/jar, and my son goes through pints of shampoo etc per month due to a serious rugby habit.!

Today's Plan:-(both kids will be out this afternoon...)
Finish emptying room, then put some of the boxes of stuff away in other areas of the house ie books into bookshelves, craft stuff to the correct storage area, spare toiletries into a shelf in the airing cupboard. If I leave it all boxed up till the end of the move I'll lose the will to unpack it again and the boxes will still probably be in the hall this time next year.
If I have time I'll also clear out the bottom cupboard of the dresser, which is full of half-used bottles of old painting stuff from the kids toddler years. This is the prelude to a major craft sort out.
    Val.

I have found a taker for a carrier of paperbacks that I have failed to sell on greenmetropolis on freecycle - so out goes some more stuff!

  • Hi all, I would love to declutter. Have a spare wardrobe full of clothes (Don't fit me anymore, thanks to an underactive thyroid problem) and would really like to make some cash on them. Some items still have the labels on them.
Dont know how to go about selling them on ebay. Can anyone offer advice.
Thanks, and enjoying the reading about all your good work.
