Hi Coxy07 - it went great, thank you for asking ! Had a 'pamper night' with all the goodies i've managed to get from Boots (thanks to the Boots thread on here !) Girls loved it and had a great time and it made my night when 4 of them came and said to me what a fun evening they had !

Hubby finished off the cakes for me while I was out (bless !) and did a better job of it than I did so i'm having to eat humble pie at the moment  . Cakes are for my other daughter (who is also a guide - senior section) - they're having a fundraising stall tomorrow so I wanted to make a few to help them out - just not enough hours in the day sometimes !

On topic (sorry for going off-topic .... yet again ! :o ) ....... does anyone know how to stop the suet pastry sticking to the butter muslin when doing a meat pudding? I've tried flouring it but still sticks ! Having one tomorrow night but spend half of my time scraping off the best bit from the muslin ! :rotfl:

Hope everyone is well and a good weekend is had by all xx

I've seen Mrs M around a bit, but I know she's approaching a hospital visit/stay for more tests -- so is probably preparing for that too !

  • Just been to my lolla fruit and veg stall this morning up the town centre near where i live and for £5.02 I got :

    1 whole brocolli
    2 oranges
    2 Macintosh reds
    2 plums
    6 brussell sprouts
    6 mini new potatoes
    a red pepper
    bunch of spring onions
    and 4 carrots

well chuffed should keep me going till wed/thurs, gonna make a big pot of soup with most of the veggies and cut up the fruit and have a lovely fresh fruit salad for me and my other half and our sprog the next few days... yummy, healthy and best of all cheap.

tonights main meal is going to be my own pasta bake receipe ive concocted over the years. mix together penne pasta, tin of tomato soup and tin of tuna - cover in cheese and put in the oven till the cheese bubbles (about
30mins), served with some garlic bread.- very hearty when the weathers like this and best of all, i have everything in my cupboard and freezer already so it wont cost me a penny.

weekly budget (monday to monday) : £40 - £10 spent so far (£5 at the f/v stall and £5 in Poundland for Carex, Colgate, Radox Deoderant, Washing Powder and hair dye, my usual hairdye about £5 so im saving quite a few of my pennies:D )

im defo getting the bug for this now

  • yaaaaaay!! I successfully cooked my chicken livers!:D :rotfl:

Splodged them into a casserole dish with chopped onion, swede, carrot, beef stock cube, some tomato puree and whatever else was hanging around :o and cooked in the oven for a while - maybe 2 hours? (was doing other food in oven before you gasp at the shocking use of gas!);)

I gotta say it is scrummy, and easily enough to make 4 portions.:T Liver meat wasn't too strong, and quite soft, although I found it easier to eat when I mushed the liver up a bit more. I have re-discovered the idea that really I should be serving things with mash/jacket spuds/rice etc to eek them out a bit more, but overall, very pleasing and probably very frugal too!

So, liver (especially whoopsied liver) will be making it onto my menu more often!
  • well done nat! I managed chicken liver pate but wasnt able to touch the livers - more chop from afar!! eeewww!! Has anyone tried making a stewy thing with chicken legs? Just wondered if it works?

oo thanks bob will have a lookie! Am determined not to pay more than 100 for all my christmas pressies!! this means innovative making and must get a move on!! One Idea I had was to sew a quote on friendship etc and then frame it for various close friends...cheap and all under 5 me thinks but will take time! Thats great re the fleeces - may have a look re the patchwork as wadding is hugely expensive!

Wadding is very expensive, but how about using a blanket from a charity shop instead? You will get a different weight and feel but it will be washable and warm.
