One of my fave things to do with frozen cheeries is thaw them (obvs!) and then put a layer of them in a cake tin, cover them in sponge cake batter (with plenty of spice in) and then serve this hot as a pudding (will need a little bit longer in the oven than normal cake). V nice in winter with custard or single cream.
I don't as a rule buy cherries because they are so expensive. However I do love cherry pie filling (could eat it straight out of the tin actually!) and had a tin in the cupboard. Last night was a bit of a rush for me as childrens' activities start at 6, so I made a lemon sponge cake tray bake, heated up the tin of cherry pie filling then poured a bit on each portion of cake, and with custard it was delicious.
If I ever see fresh cherries going cheap then I will definitely buy some and freeze them. I didn't know before that you could do it. Can't see my local supermarket selling them for less than £4 a lb though!0 -
Morning all
Hope everyone is having a good morning...
I have got some bread dough rising in r.e.m.e the remoska... so that is out of the way, and then I can get tonights dinner of potato and onions in there -with fresh baked bread :T
Im slowly begining to see what looks remarkably like "gaps" forming in the freezers  :T ..not many, but its a start... although I was talking to my neighbour yesterday and she knows of another freezer that might be going cheap...her hubby was on about having it -but she says they can't even fill the one they have -so I might be in line for another freezer :j ...
once I have enough space I can get hubbies batches of sausages made, and start making his big slowcooker pots of goulash soup made for his flask
I still havent spent any of this months budget :A :rotfl:our month started on the 25th..but im hoping that if i can just be super good this month I will have enough left from this months €100 budget to carry us through next month -meaning I can shove the whole €450 next months housekeeping in the savings account:j I have managed to put €400 away this month ...im getting quite obsessed with saving rather than spending :rotfl: hope it lasts
The weather here is awful..really overcast n windy, and raining on and off.. so That encourages me to NOT go out to the shops, but to stay curled up with my crochet
Here it is so far....
not bad for a first attempt and only being started on sunday ..can't wait for my new wool to come so I can do something a bit less  :rotfl:
right i had better get off, have a great day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -

Dont know if you have an Asda near you but the frozen cherries are £1 a box and are lovley. DH keeps buying them for me to repackage and put in the freezer! He really is cherry mad!I am somebody. I am me. I like being me. And I need nobody to make me somebody! Louis L'Amour0 -
Got the house to myself for the day today so got a major baking session going on. Got dough for bread rolls proving as we speak, cheese scones are made, sultana scones just about ready to come out the over. Will also make fairy cakes (was going to 100s & 1000s in as a surprise for the girls!) and if I have time some flapjack thingys I found the receipe for last night!!
Wish me luck!0 -

Unfortunately not. We have a Tesco, local Shoprite stores (an Isle of Man company, but they do sell Iceland and Waitrose stuff) and Co-op (which I rarely use as it's horrendously expensive).0 -

Hello Justamum,
I was inspired to post after Muchki said frozen cherries were j1 a box in Mr A. Although I don't manage 50p per day most days, I try to keep my recipe suggestions in this threads either cheap or with only small quantities of pricier ingredients. I too only buy fresh cherries in summer if I can find good value British ones.
Frugal note: You could also use blackberries in this recipe.
Lemon and cherries is a great combo - I have made the hot cherry upside down cake with lemon zest in the sponge, it was delish.0 -

Wow, can't believe what I've acheived this morning I've made:-
bread rolls
fruit scones
cheese scones
cheese & marmite twists
fairy cakes (loads!)
cooked some mince with lentils, porridge oats, soya etc to go in the freezer as base for chilli, bolegnese, cottage pie, etc
blitzed loads of bread bits into breadcrumbs
just having lunch then gonna make sausage rolls!!!
I never thought I could get so much made in a morning but I've been really organised and thought about the best order to make things, dependant on my kitchen equipment, I've also cleaned as I go which is something I never normally do, maybe I'm a cook after all:T0 -
Justamum-
I have seen frozen cherries in Tesco. They usually have one of their frozen fruits on offer so it's worth checking .0 -
Hi everyone, I'm a bit of a newbie around here but have read this thread with interest. I thought I'd just share something I concocted last week....
I had a massive craving for a toasted teacake/hotcross bun but didn't have any in the house. I made a piece of toast, buttered it and then sprinkled some cinnamon and a few sultanas on it and it was pretty good actually and fulfilled the craving!Everything will be ok in the end, if everything's not ok then it's not the end0
