I'm here too......
Was supposed to be out at a 24 hour scrapbooking crop (get together) from 10am this morning, but have had to cry off
Hubby has been changed from chemo to radiotherapy, and when told of the change was told 7-10 days until they'd "mark him up", and then another 7 days or so until the radiotherapy would start. His appt for the first stage came through for this last Thursday, so we expected the treatment to start middle of next week -- but they started it yesterday!
As it's the first time he's had this treatment I wasn't sure how he'd be after it. This morning he says he's "just a bit tired", and is "going to try and grab a nap later once the headache's gone", but he's a swine for understating how he feels and has been taking pain meds at regular intervals overnight.
Given he rarely takes those I've decided I don't want to go out and leave him with DS, 'cos if he gets bad he won't cope with the stairs to get to DS who sleeps in on a Saturday and then spends most of the rest of the day on his PC with his headset on -- and as such DH won't be able to attract his attention if he needs help. The crop is only about a 15-20 minute drive away, but DH is also struggling with the phone at the moment.... so would need to attract son's attention for him to get hold of me.
So I'm going to spend part of the day doing some of the scrapbooking I was going to do at the crop, and part of it baking (more of the banana muffins that DS loves as I got a 1.5kg of "squidgy" bananas for 36p), and part of it checking what ingredients I have to hand for "cheaper than chips" meals for this next week.
Had my bread machine out yesterday..... the cheapest loaves locally (S'flds) are over 40p, and there wasn't a single Whoopsied! loaf under £1  The last one I made didn't get completely eaten, and when quizzed I was told 'cos the blokes mainly use bread for toast and it was too big for the toaster. So I've made the 2.5lb instead of 3lb size, and it fits..... just!Cheryl0 -
Hello there all!
My internet connectivity and tiredness levels have both been stopping me from posting so much, but glad to see the thread's not dying!
We are all well here, and I've even managed a bit of batch cooking, a lentil and bacon casserole being a triumph in the SC. It's 30p a portion, so slighly over our norm, but still good. (with 125g rice it comes to 40p)
Took some sultana loaf to a hen night party last night, a gentle affair with nibbles, very nice. Told the girls that it was 1.5p a slice.Mixed reactions. Some looked aghast, and others wanted to know if you could live just off it!!!!!
Told them about the thread and me being the '50p lady'. Mirth all round....
Desisted on the champagne for Fergus's sake, but really enjoyed nibbling on things that are a rare treat for us. It makes them taste so much better! I was pathetically excited by a bowl of Maltesers!:j
Mrs M, what were the delivery times like for that lovely wool shop you found?
Me and ISOM are off to town in a tick. I am bursting out of my bras :D and thanks to Matin, I have some M and S vouchers from opening a barclaycard.
Thank you Martin for saving me from sore boobs :money::money::money:. (bet he doesn't hear that everyday!!!
Have a very lovely frugal, foraging day all.

Morning all
Weezl :rotfl: on the bra front ..I think you are right -that might be the 1st time :money: has been thanked for that
Im not sure about the delivery times from the wool shop -im still waiting on mine -but If it isn't here monday then I will give him a ring -I seem to be having all sorts of hassels with getting deliveries at the moment-
It does have its plus points though ... Im getting a standard remoska, 1/2 pan, foil and utensils FREE :j
After finally getting my remoska parcel from Lakeland -they phoned mum to say they had despatched the 3rd parcel (tracked this time)-I hadn't rung to let them know the 2nd had arrived as I thought the 3rd was allready on its way -but it seems they were waiting on a new delivery of them:rolleyes: ...the 1st is heck knows where... anyway I was going to just refuse to sign for the 3rd remoska so it would get returned to lakeland -WELL they have told mum to tell me to keep the 3rd one when it arrives as a thankyou for my patience and understanding  -the standard and remoska and half pan come to £106  plus the free foil and utensils -im amazed -but very happy :rotfl: I would have given one to mum but she had one 8 weeks ago
...oooohh I love lakeland
I have cooked allsorts in the last 3 days and its all been yummy -especially the cranberry scones yesterday... I have cooked the chicken for tomorrow in it and it seemed much quicker than in the oven :T .. My oven is now redundant :j gas guzzling, bottom burning tempremental heap that it is
Ooohhhh CW18 -I hope things settle down for you all soon -sending hugs
I just have to get the bread dough into r.e.m.e the remoska -and Im doing turkey steaks and bubble n squeak (leftover potato, swede, green beans n cabbage) for dinner tonight -might make a cheese sauce to go with it as I have some milk to use up
I still haven't broken into this months budget either :T ..im determined to buy as little as possible -and to use up some of what we have in
right back to the crochet -have a great day everyone-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I'm lurking, even if I'm not being very frugal at the moment
*kicks self* I must get back on track, and overcome my caffeine addiction! That said, I did do a monthly meal plan and it looks like I'll be spending a little over £20 for the month *happydances*
The coconut cake is a modified version of Nigella's one - I'll try and find a link for it - but where she said to soak the coconut in hot water, I used rum to see what it would taste like.As I said, definitely not frugal, but it was a treat and did serve a lot.
Continually trying the Grocery Challenge. Gotta keep trying!0 -

Im thinking of having a bowl of porridge in the morning to fill me up and keep me warm now there is a definate nip in the air!! I have some Tesco value porridge oats (59p a 1kg pack I think). I make mine with 50g oats (3p) 1/4 pt milk (10p) 1/2 pt water (free) and a tablespoon of sugar (1p?) so I make that 14p for my breakfast :j
Im also planning on having a bowl in the evening in between my tea and going to bed (in place of pudding) again to fill me up and keep me warm!!!!
I have made a spicy sausage casserole this morning which is bubbling away nicely in my slow cooker as we speak (smells divine and is keeping kitchen nice and warm!!), and would like to work out the cost per portion if anyone could help! The ingredients are : 1pkt sausages (£1), 1 large onion (20p), 1 tin value tomatoes (20p), 1/2 tsp chilli powder (?), 2 tbsp tom puree (?), 1 clove garlic (?), bit of thyme from garden (free), 1pt chicken stock made from value stock cube (?), 1 tin value baked beans (20p), 1/2 tsp paprika(?), black pepper and salt to taste, 2 x bayleaves (?), 50g lentals (?), 50g porridge oats (3p). This should feed 4 very big portions. I have put prices in of the items where I know them, but can anyone help out with the rest of the prices so that I can calculate the price of the whole dish? I could have made the dish cheaper by using value sausages but I had stockpiled the Asda sausages in the freezer when they were on special offer at £1 a pack! Going to serve this with mash potato, carrots and brocolli. Yum!!!MFW 2011 challenge - Aim: Overpay £414.26 a month/£5,000 a year. the prices you list come to £1.63. the lentils I've been using (Asda organic green) work out at 8p for 50g, taking the cost up to £1.71. tomato puree varies drastically depending on brand and whether it's from a tube or tin...... Napoline from Mr A in tube is about another 19p at a guess, so a total before herbs of £1.90. If it makes 4 servings, that would come in at 47.5p a portion.
TBH, the herbs etc don't add much (though the garlic depends where it came from, as I've seen it from really cheap offers to places where 1 bulb costs as much as 3 or 4 of the cheaper ones!) -- so possibly another 1p each? I'm sure Weezl will be more up on this part of the costing than me thoughCheryl0 -
As we all seem to be using a lot of lentils (!!) I though I would have a look on https://www.moneysupermarket.com at the prices in various stores and the prices are as follows:
Asda - Asda organics dried red split lentils 500g 80p
Tesco - Natco red lentils 2kg £3.69, Tesco red split lentils 500g 84p, Tesco wholefoods red split lentils 1kg £1.52 (special offer)
Sainsburys - Crazy Jack organic red split lentals 500g £1.49, Sainsburys red lentals 500g 84p, Sainsburys red lentals 1kg £1.38
Not sure if these are regional prices, so it might be wise to check www.mysupermarket.co.uk yourself using your postcode. These were the results when I used my postcode, your local store might have a bigger range, but looking at the above Sainsburys are cheapest for me, Sainsburys red lentils 1kg £1.38.
Im sure on another thread someone mentioned that Morrisions were pretty cheap for lentils, but I don't know what they charge. Anyway, now I know that I can get them for £1.38 a kg from Sainsburys. Has anyone managed to get their lentils any cheaper per kg?
