    Evening everyone !

Seems like lots have had a very productive day indeed !

cw18 we got a petrol mower from freecycle - maybe worth having a nose on there ? Sorry to hear your back is bad, there's nothing worse ! Sounds like you need a nice bubble bath :D

Shaz - I've just started freezing sandwiches too (ham) but I think there is a thread on this somewhere, i'll see if I can find it and pop the link up - or do you already have it?

phizzi - sounds like you had a great time with the sea kale :T ! I might have to invest some time in asking people if they know of any growing near here (south coast) - mind you, I wouldn't have a clue what it looked like ! lol. Let us know how it turns out !

Have been in the kitchen alllllllll day here (after the car boot and the pick your own:rolleyes: ) - done apple and sultana loaf, apple and blackberry crumble, made 2 shepherds pies for the freezer, 2 loaves of bread in BM (1 of which has ended up as bread and butter pudding for tomorrow night :p ) and found a scrummy recipe for black treacle rock cakes. I had to try one (just to make sure they tasted ok  ) and then had to try another one, just to make sure the second one tasted as good as the first  :rotfl: . Can pop up the recipe if anyone would like it :D . Have also cut up 3 cabbages (from pick your own shop - 30p each :j and they were huge !) and popped them in the freezer.

Right, off to tidy up the kitchen

Had a lovely day. Done some tidying up and put a wash on. Then made my veggie curry. Had a late brunch, then went to see if I can get any whoopsies from Sainsburys and Asda.
Got a couple, not really really reduced like I see on here though.

Came home read the paper and had some soup as wasn't hungry enough for the curry.
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T
  • Right guys this month I'm going to need some serious help. Money is at an all time low and I am stressed to the eyeballs.

I need to cut my spend as much as possible, and am aiming for between £30-50 for 25th Sept - 25th Oct for food and cleaning stuff and smellies etc. Thats for me, OH and DS (7) *gulp* although my tummy is the size of an egg so I don't eat much.

Will need as many ideas and as much motivation as possible! Help!

  • I've had a great weekend, hasn't the weather been divine, why couldn't it have been like that all summer?! Made tomato soup yesterday with some of my excess toms, got loads of roasted ones in the freezer (but not as many as MrsMC!). Still some on the plants so might be making more soup soon! Went for a run this lunchtime, OH dropped me off and then took the kids and set up the picnic and I ran there to meet them. Totally HM picnic too, hm bread rolls, fairy cakes & bread pudding, toms from the garden. If I could just learn to make Dairylea for the kids we'd be self sufficient! lol! Came home to roast chicken dinner which has got enough leftovers for tomorrows dinner and maybe more, would make soup but haven't got the room in the freezers, trying to run one down to defrost ready for Christmas!
Got my first Asda delivery sorted for Tuesday, they have only just started in the area and I usually use Tesco but thought I'd give it a go.
Hope this weather holds for a few more days and I guess everyones been enjoying it loads as the boards have been quiet this weekend, we've all got better things to do in the real world!

  • Thanks Shaz. Going to be aiming to shop out of the freezer/cupboards mostly. Sorted through the cupboards earlier and planning to inventory the freezer later. The main problem is hubby, who thinks fillet steak should be a weekly meal, and that a meal without meat is a snack!

Shellbell - how much of that do you reckon is available for food? Does that include lunches for your son, or does he have school dinners on top of that? Do you need packed lunches for any of you?

I have a few 'cheapy' recipes/meals in my spreadsheet (mostly made for myself, hubby and a son of 17), but would need to double check which have come out cheap due to Whoopsie ingredients before sharing them with costings. Mind, at £50 for 30 days (even if it were all available for food) I think mine may be over budget -- they average about 65p/head, so almost £2 a meal for three of us.

What do you have in your freezer/store cupboards? Basing meals around anything you have in would be the best way of keeping costs down.
