That's a super idea Frugalista, hopefully I'll no longer have to play 'freezer roulette' especially between bolognaise and chilli. I've been looking for a freezer pen for ages with no luck but that's even better as no permanent marking of the containers.

    hello!

feeling very chuffed and needed to share where people will understand !!! ... bought a medium chicken at the weekend .. everything went mad and i didn't get round to cooking it till tuesday ...

tuesday - roast chicken and veggies etc (fed 2 children and 2 adults) (took the rest of the meat off and put in tub in fridge) & made chicken stock from carcas.
wednesday - chicken fahitas (or however you spell it!) (2 children and 2 adults)
thursday - turned stock and scraps of chicken from bones into chicken and veg soup for lunch (2 children and 1 adult) - cooked left over chicken and some bacon to make a filling for a pie. (in freezer - will do 2 children and 2 adults with some left over)
friday - finished the soup off (2 children and 1 adult)

plus a couple of lunchtime sandwiches/wraps for assorted packed lunches!

    definately a rubber chicken!

    WOW!! Well done!!!
I couldn't stretch a chicken that far though I'm afraid.. but then again, there's 6 of us. :D
They'll polish of an entire chicken on one meal. All I'll have left is the carcass and maybe a few scraps for in the soup! lol!
  • Quinoa is lovely IMHO. It makes a lovely pilaff- I just cook it according to instructions, using veggie bouillion rather than water. I add chopped onion, courgette and mushrooms about halfway into the cooking time. My personal favourite is to then serve with some cashews or sunflower seeds stirred through with a drizzle of olive oil. It's also nice if you substitute some if the cooking stock for a tin of tomatoes and add some chilli flakes.

Hope that is of use to someone!

I've been out most of the day..... went to Bury to 'take part' in the first stage of some long term medical research/monitoring (and got my cholesterol tested at the same time - have been advised to have it checked again in 12 months! ooops!)

Had to change buses at Bolton, so I spent a couple of hours there on the way back -- hardly spent anything though, as I flinched at most price labels I looked at

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh at last ....... I can sit down ! lol

Been in the garden alllllllll day ! Am cream crackered and sitting here with a nice glass of Rose - think i'll be in bed by 9  .

Have got a lot done though, pond area looks lovely now and the new raised beds are in - although the ground is going to take some major working - huge clumps  !

Welcome back Weezl's - hope you had a wonderful break xx

Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend.

On Monday, I need to sit down and work out budgets as I think i'm going to start trying to save up to get the house decorated (one room at a time). Now the heating is (almost !) finished - we can decorate without the worry of workmen coming in to make a mess.

In order to be able to pay for the decorating though (need new carpets, new furniture etc) I think I'm going to try and cut back on my shopping even more than what i'm doing now (I could make the money go further I think with a bit of excellent organisation !) I already meal plan and try to stock up on special offers etc so I'll be after lots of advice (once I've worked out where to start ! :rotfl: )

Also now the garden is mostly finished, we haven't got that expense any more. Need to research what I can grow in the greenhouse over the winter to save a few pennies.

    I think I need to make a list ! :p

Have a good evening everyone xxxx

  • i've been at a conference all day ... and got fed morning and afternoon tea with pastries/biscuits/cakes, cooked lunch and pud, and DH had bought pizza for tea ...

so apart from a cup of tea and a banana ... i haven't spent a penny! on food that is!;)

i did manage to buy some books and then popped into town to buy a birthday present ... and ended up buying some odds and ends for the childrens stockings!

if anyone has little girls ... a really nice tiny china teacups and teapot set with disney princess transfers on them (on a cardboard backing with plastic bit over, (so i will have to find little box for dd to keep them in!) but only £1 from poundland! might go back and get a few more for all the other little girls i know!
