has anyone here cooked seakale before? (no not you Seakay, I haven't turned to cannabalism just yet)
just got back from a walk along the beach and saw big cabbagey looking plants growing. I picked a bit, sniffed it, nibbled it - it tasted like cabbage. I hadn't keeled over after half an hour so decided to fill my handbag with some of the younger looking leaves. (much to DD10's horror - "Stop foraging mum!" - how often do you hear someone calling that out on the beach? :rotfl:) Later on we saw one of those signs that tell you about the various fauna and flora to look out for and that confirmed that it was seakale.
So I'm presuming I just cook it like cabbage?weaving through the chaos...0 -

just been for a walk down the lane with dd and ds ...
''WHY do you have to keep picking blackberries?" "we've got enough now" "stop it"
reapeated more or less non-stop!
i just don't like to see them going to waste! i must have had 14lb at the very least off the bushes!
my veggie patch has been cultivating a nice fresh new crop of nettles, so, when no one is watching, i'll be picking them too! got lots of what i assume are rose hips ( red/orangy berrie type things with a 'fuzzy' end,) growing on rose bushes both in the garden and down the lane, but am a bit nervous of picking those...not sure what i would do with them and the thought of school day itching powder is putting me off! is there anything else i could be foraging for at this time of year?
thanks loocyloo xx0 -
afternoon all...a very sleepy isom saying hurro! weezl I passed you as you turned into your road (i was on the way home from lunch...forgot about nightmare roadworks between me and canton...) but suspect you may have had the same sleepy lunch feeling I had!
Roast pork, pots, veg, apple sauce and my merangue and fruit for pud...followed by coffee. Too late for a snooze me thinks - esp as I have to make the bed. Huge relief is that I found the cusion cover I made (will do photo when its all put as a finished cushion!) as thought I may have inadvertently chucked it out by mistake...it was in the ironing basket - obviously hinting! phew...
good luck for college shaz! Let us know how the forraging experement goes phizzmum and suspect ou may have earned lunch and dinner weezl...dont go overdoing it now! sorry to hear about disasterous gardner cw...nothing worse...hello everyone else....:)Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Afternoon all
First things first... munchki - hubby nipped to the supermarket yesterday and those preserving boilers were gone  But there is a good chance that they had put a few out to make us think "hmm better get one before they go" -and then will put more out in a few days -which works:p we have noticed them doing this before-so we will keep our eyes peeled -and grab one as soon as i see one now I know you are interested
Have made savoury meat roll for lunch -and have half left -so that will be tomorrows dinner covered :T ...
Have been quite lazy-suprise :rotfl: sat on my bum knitting ...oh and I have cleared out some more tubs in the garden -only so i can get ready for next season.. need to get my broad beans in next month :j .... I got hubby to build 1 of my arches so i could visualise where they will go -its no use giving me dimensions and expecting them to make sense
... and ooh heck they are big :rotfl: and we have 9  ..... Still hopefully it will make the beans n peas crop better
... I have measured the patio so hopefully I can plan better -to save me moving stuff once it starts to grow
right i had better go and get something done-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
I guess it depends on the area whether unpicked blackberries would "go to waste" - in my area - not a chance....in fact we could do with loads more growing handy....I've yet to spot a patch where ALL the best ones havent already been taken:mad: (even down the quietest of country lanes
). Wish I lived in an area of the country where there was loads going spare....so I could pick as many as I want
..have tried a variety of locations round here and have only ever got "second-rate" second pickings so far...
So far - its still a case of having to buy my blackberries if I want the chance of better ones....back to the drawing board...and the exploring....I'll find a patch yet where theres some decent ones left......

My mother's comment for the week re my attempted foraging "You're not so poor that you HAVE to eat that way are you?".......aaah! Bless her. She's worried whether I can afford to eat:D0 -
There was an article about guerilla gardening on a tv programme the other night & I couldn't help wondering if there were any Weezlites amongst 'em all
Following the [partial] success of my baked potato peelings the other day, I was musing on drizzling today's apple one with either honey or a quick spritz of oil & sprinkle of sugar....do you think it miaght work? Unfortunately, I'd binned most of them before the  hitFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.
