Could you use the teflon sheets now available for baking? I use them to line things like cookie trays and have cut one to size for my micro/grill/convection oven thingy. They work a treat and last ages, I'm pretty sure theyd work for this too.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kitchen-Craft-Non-Stick-Baking-Sheet/dp/B000YJF06G
Mine was from home and bargain and I think it was a pound :-) HTH
hmm it might work, i'd have to find the measurements for the dehydrator first though as it's round and it's essential that the liner goes all the way across and a little up the sides to keep the stuff from dripping through... how easy wsa it to cut? a hole would have to be made in the middle too
i found a link off the one you gave for reusable liner that alos might work http://www.amazon.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-NON-STICK-COOKING-LINER/dp/B0014HN6VI/ref=pd_cp_kh_1 so i'll give those both a good think if i do manage to pick one up myself, thanks for sharing that, i'm all up for less waste of resources and cash of course!0 -
You can only get heating done with the Warmfront grant if you're an owner - not if you're a tenant. You can get insulation on Warmfront as a tenant though.
.
in scotland it's called something else and i'm not sure if they have the same restrictions (it is a different programme) but i'll have a look. thanks for pointing that out it's quite possible i was confusing the tennant rights and the landlords rights to use the grant.0 -
While we're on a natural living theme - soaking grains/dehydrators.....does anyone know whereabouts in Britain I can buy a Big Berkey water filter and what/if any bits and pieces I need to go with it.
There's a post about it on a blog I sometimes read:
http://walkslowlylivewildly.com/category/green-living
ie the 24 June post which currently tops this category.
Has anyone got one and what do you think of it?
Apparently it filters everything - but everything - out: fluoride/drug residues/etc - and can, on the other hand, be used for filtering rainwater - and not having to touch tapwater again for drinking purposes.0 -

Here's a site in the UK which sells them, Ceridwen. I am very interested in getting something like this but it is quite expensive, so will have to wait for a bit.
I think it might be cheaper if you can find an American site to import it for you as it costs more £ than $ at this UK site:eek:.

Thanks for that - I think I would probably want the Travel Berkey actually - that would probably be big enough for me (not to mention squeezing it into such a teeny kitchen as I have..). That firm only seems to do the two biggest sizes - so it looks like I'm still "on the search". I get confused by the bit about "so much extra for 2 elements" and "takes up to 6 elements"..... Sitting there thinking "Do I need elements? What function do they serve? If I do need them - how many should I have?" Its not very clear.
Do let me know if you come across anything clearer about this and the chance of getting a smaller size.
Its quite frustrating when one sees things on U.S. websites that turn out to be difficult/impossible to get here....oooh....was reading earlier about a grain mill again and thinking "I'm sure it must be healthier to grind one's own flour" and then just trying to remind myself that its a squeeze to get anything in my kitchen at the best of times...so where would I put it?
In my house the size of it meant I had to do some weighing-up of priorities - do I extend the kitchen into the dining room and have a large country-ish type kitchen OR use the dining room as a meditation room (plus occasional dining room). Most of us have these dilemmas - and I chose to have it as a meditation room (wouldnt be everyone's first choice I do know;):D) - hence such limited kitchen space.
(Hmmm....amused by your virtual location - "in a parallel dimension" - errr...you mean the one where money isnt a problem - as theres always plenty of it.....we wish...)0 -

Been quiet over the weekend as I've been off on a basket weaving course with my MIL! I successfully made a small log basket - how chuffed am I :j:jEllo!
It is I weezl the lurker!
Thought you might get a bit bored of 'today I defrosted more corned beef hash!' and other such banality!
Hello Weezl - you could never be dull! Might I recommend apple snow? Basically baked apple stuffed with dried fruits and topped with meringue. Frugal, tasty and good for you all in oneIn_Search_Of_Me wrote: »Corned beef hash - yeugh!! had it at school and it was so gross that you had to have jam just to eat it...
Jam with corned beef? Blimey...Confuzzled wrote: »wow that sounds lovely!
now if i'm right blancmange is something akin to americans pudding (like whip only heavier and creamier) is that right? i've probably eaten it but not known it was blancmange
Well, blacmange sets a bit firmer than what I picture as an American pudding, but yes, that sounds great
Now then, suggestions please, what can I do with a whole carirer bag of mushrooms that is still healthy / low fat and doesn't involve meat?

The first time I came across blancmange written down was in Little Women and didn't connect it with the spoken blamonge. When I went to high school there was a written menu on a black board and I was so excited to find that I was about to experience this exotic American dish!
Some disappointment ensued, but luckily I was actually fond of blancmange!
Quite interesting historical fact - pink blancmange used to be called rougemange in old recipe books.0 -
