Sounds like the makings of a trifle to me :-D

aye it does but that would mean me having to make custard

and i don't have any alcohol either as i only drink when some is fobbed off on me (though at christmas i do love having baileys fobbed off on me, frequently! ;))

the sponge i can do just fine... to be honest though, i didn't grow up with trifle, it's not part of the american culture really so the whole jelly with cake and them something creamy (custard in trifle or even worse jelly with ice cream ewwww) is something i haven't quite gotten my head around just yet!

i do eat it sometimes and it's not awful unless it's got cheapfruit cocktail in it, i hated fruit cocktail as a kid so i think that's why i dislike that so much but well i think some things you kinda have to grow up with to truly appreciate.

but the wee one likes it well enough and i DO have a large quantity of lime jelly to dispose of so i may just give it ago. i need to get the ex to bring my cookie cutters on his next visit, perhaps i'll make jelly jigglers (basically use half the water so they set very firm) and cut them into cool shapes with the cookie cutters... that should help get the wee one to eat the jelly... and personally i think we should be encouraged to play with our food much more often :p

I think you should ask the 'texter' to cost up a recipe, it will soon become clear whether lovely Weezl is still alive and well, or whether someone has hjijacked her and her phone  We do miss the goings on at Weezl Towers.

I think I should name our place too, perhaps Chicken Mansion would be appropriate - we recently created a splendid new extension to our chicken coop out of a Freecycle rabbit hutch, and OH pronounced that we had done a good job of 'Blinging the Chicken's Crib'. Yes. That should be my inspiration!

I have to say, despite being as English as it gets and growing up with the birds instant trifle-in-a-pack efforts, I NEVER make trifle with jelly for exactly that reason! For me the perfect trifle is cake (always plenty of offcuts from my wedding cakes!) blacmange and whipped cream. I favour a combo of chocolate cake doused in [aldi substitute] baileys, with chocolate blacmange topped off by cream whipped with another tot of baileys in it.

omg, that sounds WONDERFUL! No matter that I am 31 and have no children, I must try it as soon as possible! :D

me and my friends all love cooking, food and EATING and amongst them I have a bit of a reputation for puddings. This is partly because of the constant battle to lose weight, the only time I do a pud is when we have people round, so I tend to make an effort then.

one that is often requested is raspberry trifle. It's just an assembly job really. Sponge in the base soaked in raspberry liqueur, topped with defrosted frozen raspberries, then a layer of custard (just ordinary, made with skimmed milk usually) then some whipped cream and some toasted flaked almonds.

Not particularly frugal, but very nice!

My family trifle has no custard at all as half of us hate it. Actually it has no jelly either as we are all veggie and 20 odd years ago it was still kinda difficult to find veggie jelly that set properly so we didn't bother! :rotfl: Its basically trifle sponges soaked in sherry/fruit liquer, LOTs of fruit (usually rasps, brambles, stawberries etc - think fruits of the forrest), a layer of fruit yoghurt (with even more fruit added) and cream on top! :rotfl: Its a little odd but a firm favourite at my family Xmas dinner!

that gave me a good chuckle!

best chicken coop i've ever seen was an old caravan, the really old rounded type.
my ex came up with an interesting idea for creating a chicken coop/biodigester/greenhouse combo...anyone up for trying that out? :p

now if you two really want to bling the chickens house you should ask for some tinsel on freecycle, maybe you'll even get some of those silver and gold beads too, really make those hens feel pampered :rotfl:

don't mind me i'm in a silly mood today, and have been able to relax the last few days which makes for a nice change!

i haven't been on much lately so i thought i'd catch you up (please feel free to move on if your eyes start to glaze over :D)

got to see harry potter on tuesday (ex paid for it, even bought snacks!) we adults enjoyed it but the wee one was bored 'cuz of all the yucky kissing' :rotfl:

my mouse is on the fritz big time so i've managed to get a new one for just 2.66 after using amazon vouchers. i use an a4tech cordless mouse, the mouse pad has a cord and it's got a magnet in it (nothing powerful enough to mess up the computer) and it charges the mouse for you as you use it on the pad, perfect for me as i can't remember to charge stuff up if it's not screaming/beeping at me!

i was surprised to find them on amazon as last time i bought one a few years ago they weren't selling them yet, however i'm happy i checked as i now have a posh red one coming my way ooohhhh (ok it was the only one they had!) it's called magic magnetism for anyone that is interested in them. was only 12 something for the set and my last one lasted for a few years so well worth it.

wouldn't you know it i got another 5 quid voucher AFTER they shipped my order, oh well i'll have that for the wee one's wii for christmas!

my sweet potato plant has taken off and the leaves are getting big now, it's such a gorgeous plant, i need to get some pics for everyone. the basil has FINALLY started to really come into it's own. it's the first time i planted it from seed, got a seed kit from a charity shop for 2 quid. it has taken 3 months for it to get to a stage where i'm not afraid i'll drown it when i water it. i think next time i'd buy something from the supermarket and plant it out again, i could have had so much basil by now for a lot less, oh well, one lesson learned!

i bought a new thyme plant from the supermarket last night and i'll get that potted up and in the window soon, the one i bought last time i put out side and it's not fared well so this will live in the kitchen window

i also managed to get some really good bargains at morrisons last night despite the students having just come to raid it and on tuesday i found a HUGE king size duvet in a nice cover for just a fiver at a charity shop it's lovely and will make a good start to my collection for this winter

also the letting agent stopped by and is going to have someone out to check my thermostat, i think the gas keeps running when it shouldn't be. i've been charged 185 quid for 3.5 months, only one month did i have the heat on and that was very very low and only in two rooms. since then i've only had the water heater on 2 hours a day so that seems excessive to me!

she's also going to see about getting a new mattress for my bed HALLELUJAH! and maybe even an entirely new bed for the wee ones room though just another mattress would be nice.

also got some financial issues sorted with the council and whilst i'm still having a spot of bother with another agency i think it will be sorted soon. and i got my application form for the OU so i need to fill that out soon...

so overall things are looking up, keep your fingers crossed for me that i get the financial side of things sorted!!

hope everyone is well and happy :T

'Blingin the Chicken's Crib'? Brilliant / Priceless!!

I'll try and think of something witty for my place, but I'm not holding my breath!

Confuzzled is there a lot of "yukky kissing" in HP then cos it is the sort of thing that really puts me off films? Everytime I went to see Lord Of The Rings in the cinema I used to use all the soppy lovey dovey bits as loo breaks if I needed em. I timed it so I could rush out of the screen, use the loo and get back without missing any decent stuff. :D

no there isn't there is one scene where lavendar throws herself at ron and does a full on snog and a quick view of ginny and dean snogging but there's a lot of puppy eyes and all that like there was in the book and she's a little squeamish about all that (wait a few years and SHE will be the doe eyed one :rotfl:)

for adults it's really funny, lots of knowing chuckles! and you'd probably really appreciate emma watsons reactions to the sickeningly sweet behaviour of lavendar!
