Ello!
It is I weezl the lurker!
Sorry I've been awol, haven't been cooking see, as I'm draining down the freezer before holiday. Thought you might get a bit bored of 'today I defrosted more corned beef hash!' and other such banality! I have also been having huge fun making things with ISOM's precious sewing machine. Very kind and bravely she has lent it to me:T:T:T:T
How are you all though?
I may be fortunate enough to freegan some cooking apples, so I might be on the scrounge for some recipes...
I think shaz or sian had a spiced apple cake recipe?
I am very much looking forward to meeting Shaz and anyone else who fancies a picnic in cardiff
love to you all, Weezl and Fergus xxx

one that is often requested is raspberry trifle. It's just an assembly job really. Sponge in the base soaked in raspberry liqueur, topped with defrosted frozen raspberries, then a layer of custard (just ordinary, made with skimmed milk usually) then some whipped cream and some toasted flaked almonds.
Not particularly frugal, but very nice!
oooh lesley! I'm drooling just at the description! Can you bring some to our picnic

would love to meet up but Cardiff is a bit far for me - I'm in East Sussex! Will see what I can find for your freegan apples, there are several recipes that I think might interest you. Will get back tom when I have found them
I am really excited at the moment as I am trying out a new kitchen toy. I got a food dehydrator today (in the post). I’ve been thinking about it for a while and did lots of research as I didn’t want to get something that would end up being a 5 minute wonder then stuffed in a cupboard and forgotten.
One of the things that you can do with it is make fruit leathers. So I have pureed up some rhubarb and apple with some fresh ginger and a bit of sugar and put that in the drying rack. After 8-10 hours I should get a lovely fruit leather.
Am looking forward to experimenting with anything I can get hold of cheap, although I am a bit dubious about the meat and fish the instruction booklet says I can do.
Oh and it says I can do flowers to make pot pourii! So I’ll try drying some rose petals and see what they come out like.
I put the electricity usgae gadget on and it showed an extra 0.2 units. So it should use a maximum of 2 units of electricity which according to my bill are 5.7p for the first lot of units, then 11p a unit after that. So the rhubarb and apple leather would cost nothing for the rhubarb, however much it is for the 3 apples I used from the fruit bowl, a few pence for the ginger and sugar and a maximum of 22p for the electricity. The leather itself is quarter of an inch thick and the size of the tray it is on, which is like a large dinner plate. So pretty good.
Keep going to have a look and it is looking very promising, can't wait to try it0 -

hiya susan!
Why is there whey in your lentils and rice recipe? Is it a taste thing or a nutritional content thing?
P.S if you do dig the sewing machine out, then alice might like one of these!

think I might have to have a go at those dresses, look pretty simple and attractive if you use the right fabric to make the bias binding. I used to have a gadget for making bias tape, but no idea where it is now.
Got to go, I should have been gone by now. When I die I will know that I have lived, loved, mattered and made a difference, even if in a small way.0
