    Hi elfin

I make parcels from foil with fish and a few veg in with a bit of vermouth in then bake in the oven ...............delish

I've just clicked to the word "foil" in this post - t'recipe sounds nice Shaz (for those of us who eat fish) - but the foil element - hmmm...baking foil....hmmm....aluminium....hmmm.....aluminium in body being predisposing factor to Alzheimers if I remember my stuff okay:eek:

Dont recall the details - but my baking foil and aluminium pressure cooker both got chucked out on the spot and I now have a stainless steel pressure cooker. Guess lotsa people dont know this yet - judging by my current difficulties getting a reusable water bottle. Plastic - no - because its unnecessary use of plastic (and I wonder whether that might leach chemicals even into my water) - which leaves only aluminium ones in the local shops......sigh......I'll be sending off by post then for a stainless steel from an eco firm then...

That brings a question to mind I have wondered about before: aside from recipes gathered from this thread, what are people's favourite frugal recipe books?

I have The Pauper's Cookbook, and have used it a bit (although the indexing drives me crazy!), and I was also given a copy of 'More With Less' which I find I haven't used at all... I'd be interested to know what you all think icon7.gif

    Elfin.
I find that the Paupers Cookbook is a bit confusing sometimes and some of the recipes are most definitely NOT frugal! I like Easycook magazine there's lots of recipes in that don't cost a fortune, can easily be adapted to feed more/less people and are fairly seasonal. I get ideas from my Mum, friend who is also a frugalista or on here though ;) Delia's Complete Cookery Collection is good too as are Marguerite Patten's books. :D

Marguerite Patten - of course, wartime recipes, what a good idea! I think I shall have to visit the library to see if I can find a ration-cooking type book! :T

There's some great war cookery books in our library so I hope you find some. I like one by Marguerite Patten called something like The Victory Cookbook. It's all about how the housewives of the time produced feasts & street parties for VE day etc whilst still on rations :T

Elfin - if you are into that type of thing you might find the following thread interesting. I might even have another read myself. I found it quite addictive to follow at the time. ;)

  • Mary Norwak is a good frugal recipe writer. I have several of her books, some by mistake because they are titled as freezer books or pressure cooker books but she wrote them

I haven't used any of the More With Less recipes either. I just like the lovely tone of the book and the ideas behind it

Hey all, thought I would pop in to say hello, was trying to be frugal this week as I didn't get paid until Thursday but have been reading a Christian book called Crazy Love which has been challenging me in being more generous so am trying to tally that with my bargain hunting nature, I guess the more I save on things the more I can give away in essence, definitely not my natural state though to be really free with my money, I guess that's where the faith comes in :)

Have some butternut squash and orange peppers roasting in the oven to make a soup for lunch at work this week which will be points free, have to make up for having canneloni and garlic bread at pizza express last night! Had porridge for breakfast with chopped honey mango in it, meant it didn't need any sugar in it at all, and a large cup of fresh coffee (a saturday essential!)

Hope you all have a great day!

Millie's cookies are pretty expensive I think but as they are a brand it would be hard to go for similar prices, I would maybe go for a slightly smaller size than millies and do 25p each or 5 for £1, thinking of the comparison with the bags you can get from the bakeries in supermarkets. Or you could go for charging more and having some 'free samples' which will lure people in. I think if you had some nice cellophane or paper bags and some nice ribbon or stickers to seal them people would pay more. Are you thinking of having people choose from a selection? It does sound like a great idea! and has made me hungry!
