ISOM, I just had a nice long shower and treated myself by using my salt scrub. Amazing the cheery power of a good wash :D

Although my Tresemme has just ran out and all I could think was "ooh, I MUST give the Asda Smart Price shampoo a try...", I must be in that mindset now eh.

Thanks Sunny Girl, you're right, I'm not wracking up tons of debt, and thankfully it's because of paying it off that we're so skint at the minute. In a desperate attempt to pay it off asap I've stretched us quite far, but we'll be debt free the very week we go on holiday in August so yey to that!! Post-holiday we'll be much better off, although I think my frugal ways will stick for the most part (LOADS of work to do in the house and a baby to start making!).
:T What a fabulous holiday you'll have knowing that it's paid for and that you owe nothing :j It will have been worth it all and with your frugal ways you won't go back. Enjoy the work on the house ......... and the baby making ;):p:D

Well I managed to improve my random lentil stew thing with the addition of some value red peppers and some mussels, yum yum and they are very reasonably priced I think compared to other fish. Though I would have blown the budget if I had one with the spinach and ricotta ravioli... oops

made some 'millies' cookies to take to a friend's for the weekend, really easy and actually taste very similar to the brand ones. I made a giant one which I have written on in icing, it was meant to be a heart but bears some resemblance to a rotund bottom now, ah well, sure she won't mind.

This is the recipe I used though I used half the amount of chocolate chips. I reckon with only one egg in and if you chopped your own chocolate they would fit into the budget of a Weezl family...

    Chocolate Chip Cookies Millies Style

    Ingredients

    125g butter, softened
    100g light brown soft sugar
    125g caster sugar
    1 egg, lightly beaten
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    225g self-raising flour
    ½ tsp salt
    200g chocolate chips

    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4.

    2. Cream butter and sugars, once creamed, combine in the egg and vanilla.

    3. Sift in the flour and salt, then the chocolate chips.

    4. Roll into walnut size balls, for a more homemade look, or roll into a long, thick sausage shape and slice to make neater looking cookies.

    5. Place on ungreased baking paper. If you want to have the real Millies experience then bake for just 7 minutes, till the cookies are just setting - the cookies will be really doughy and delicious. Otherwise cook for 10 minutes until just golden round the edges.

    6. Take out of the oven and leave to harden for a minute before transferring to a wire cooling rack. These are great warm, and they also store well, if they don't all get eaten straight away!

God is good, all the time

I'm having a real down day today :(
Yesterday I was really chuffed at my old style frugal ways but today it's just really getting me down that it's through necessity rather than choice. I'm so fed up with being constantly skint. We've got a holiday coming up in 10 weeks time and I'm doing my best to stop unnecessary spending but it doesn't seem to be doing any good, each weekly payday rolls around and there's nothing left from the last week.

    *sigh*

Feeling decidely lonely tonight too, OH has gone out riding with some friends but I wasn't in the mood so I'm at home alone. Haven't even had anything to eat cos I'm just really low. Someone tell me to snap out of it and give me a good reason to cheer up

I am in a similar situation, just wanted to let you know it's not just you.

I am frugal now due to my massive overspending habits. I'm trying very hard to overcome the ingrained habits. I like the new ways but sometimes the old ways rears its ugly head.

My mood gets low on frequent occasions and I jst have to tell myself to hang in there and things will get better (in quite a long time in my case :o) I felt fed up last night too about never having any real money to spend on things each month I know it is hard work and it can get you down.

Take care my dear and a hug for you :A

morning cazz, cheerfulness, sian, isom and all who follow.... :D

cazz, hope you're feeling better this morning? Reading your post I was thinking about the adage 'necessity is the mother of invention'. Although you feel annoyed that your frugalista ways have come about through necessity, it does seem that this is producing a fantastic inventive creativeness! Your mum's store cupboard challenge and your foraging ideas spring to mind!;)

exciting about thinking about a baby and being debt free, what a year this'll be for you and OH!:T:eek::beer::j I'd be very happy to share thoughts about which of the allegdgedly 'essential' baby spends are actually essential, and how to do things frugally if you like!?

Speaking of babies, no word from bashful? And ummmm, oh boy, name escapes me, but it's her second child also due now.... was it boodle?.... excuse my baby-brained forgetfulness!:D:D:D

fedupandskint, hope your HB trip goes well, the jars of chopped minced garlic are also great value, 220g for 59p, once again beating Asda into a cocked hat:money:

sunnygirl, Sweet and sour sauce, yes, that's quite easy isn't it especially if you cheat and use ketchup! I think you need to add extra ginger, garlic, sugar/honey/syrup and vinegar, and then some chunks of pineapple, onions, peppers etc...

    Have a great day all,

    Love weezl x
