Weezl- I went right off quorn in the first few weeks of pg, which was a pain as I have quite a stash of it in the freezer. I'm back on it now though so will no doubt get through it.

Cazz- the mincemeat shortbread sounds lovely. Would love to give it a try if you have a recipe to share!

BOB I can't really remember the quantities for the raspberry ripple, but I'll be making some more soon so will post... I made it with waitrose raspberry jam (do you remember when martin posted about getting 20% off at waitrose...)

Oh that one? Fair enough, Mr.B will have to wait for his Raspberry Ripple icecream then:D:rotfl:

Hope you managed a good sleep and Fergus didn't wake up to often while AM was getting his pudding..( see i can be restrained)

Mincemeat shortbread ~ (from memory, so might be slightly out) - 60p per batch

Cream together 3oz sugar and 6oz marg, add 9oz plain flour and about 5 tablespoons of sweet mincemeat & mix til it doughs, roll dough out, lay in a greased tin and bake for 30 minutes at 170C.

It's basically just regular shortbread but with some mincemeat added but it's SO tasty and since I cut mine into custard-cream sized squares I managed to get 16 pieces. But for less that 60p for the batch I think that's good going.

It would seriously take me all day. She ran out of space in the kitchen YEARS ago so now her tins fill additional cupboards throughout the house totalling the equivalent of 2 chock-full larder cupboards. She has unusual stuff (well, unusual for me) like tubs of dried egg powder, jars of sundried stuff in oil, a MILLION different curry sauces (score!), and tinned stir fry components (I always buy fresh so this is alien for me).

If we don't go biking tonight I'll go round and have a hunt through, I'll try and make a start with some of the older and more unusual stuff first to help aid my recipe creativity.

I've got loads of space in the freezer, been purposely running it down lately ;)

I tend to roll my shortbread into a sausage and slice off into biscuits (I try to avoid the rolling out thing where I can - lazy me. :o)

Would this recipe lend itself to that or does the mincemeat make it a little loose for it, do you think?
It just sounds so scrummy I'm gonna have to get the pinny on and make some for supper.

Afternoon all, hope everyone is well.

@Cazz, I like the idea of using your mum's tins! LOL

I've had a little taste of the chilli I made yesterday and it's lovely. I wanted to make some tortillas to go with it, but I can't manage the kneading. :(
Rice it will have to be.
I've defrosted all of the pastry and so will try egg custard tarts today.
I'm hoping that Co-op will have some more whoopsie'd eggs this week. Last week they had 4 for 60p, and for some odd reason, I didn't buy more than one carton
Getting there... A deal at a time. :T

Mmmm. Sausage shortbreads, like the old Highlander biccies my mother used to make.

Yeah the dough ends up quite firm so it's definitely rollable, my mother quite often used to roll the dough and put it in the fridge to firm up before she cut the biscuits (so that they didn't squash down as the knife went through them) so if it comes out a bit on the soft side you could try that.

    ... delurks...

Yummy  I may have to try to make some of those sweet mincemeat shortbreads (and bean pate and the other 1001 yummy recepies here :T). I managed to get a couple of jars of sweet mincemeat at ~30p/jar (BBE 2011 sometime ) in Mr T which I was going to keep till Xmas but this sounds much better! :D

... relurks as I can barely cook anything other than soup - I just like reading about others who can! :o ...

For those that shop in Asda it might be worth noting that they had reduced their 'best' mincemeat with rum, cherries etc to 30p at the moment. Obviously keeping pace with MrT!

Its delish in fruit cake and makes it lovely and moist.
