I've spent the last 3 days reading through all of Weezl's big threads, phew, I'm knackered!
Inspiring stuff though, I thought OH and I were doing quite well managing to stick to a £100 - 120 a month budget for the 2 of us (plus 1 cat & 1 dog) but I reckon it would take very little effort on my part to bring that down but quite a chunk. I'm not very good when it comes to dreaming up recipes and putting random ingredients together so the threads have given me a wake-up call and made me realise that it's a skill I need to develop.
Classic example was when Weezl mentioned making candied peel from some satsuma skins. It sounds so blinkin obvious but I have 2 satsumas EVERY day for my lunch and had never thought to do that. When I mentioned it to my mother she said "or put them towards making some marmalade". Of course!!
So my resolve is to actually use my noggin when I'm cooking (and start by making loads of the recipes from the threads to inspire me).
You never know, I might pop back now and again to report my successes
Thanks for the inspiration you lot, it's good to know that there's always room for improvement no matter how stretched you think you are.0 -

Afternoon all
So I was out for dinner last night, the holiday centre I used to work at does an Appreciation Dinner every year and I went to be appreciated. The food was yummy but then I went to help wash up so I felt less guilty.
Anyway, they did a lovely salad as a starter and had 'sun dried' tomatoes in it, if you were to make these at home do you think they would keep? It would be nice to make them when tomatoes are cheaper to pop into things...God is good, all the time

I'm not off to a good start, trying to decide what to make for tea tonight and because I've run out of tinned toms, potatoes and rice I'm at a loss. Curse my lack of imagination.0

I made a lentil mousakka last night but want to put that in the freezer.
So I have a tin of beans, a jar of Lloyd Grossman tikka masala sauce, plenty of lentils, plenty of mixed beans, some onions, half a swede, some limp celery and loads of herbs and spices.
I'm on a cupboard run-down0
