hello, not usually a participator of this thread but wondered if cazzdevil could tell me the recipe for the oven baked onion bhaji? as i hate deep frying anything.
Hi, http://jeenaskitchen.blogspot.com/2007/12/onion-bhaji-recipe.html this is the recipe I use for the onion bhajis. They really are delicious.

Well I managed to make a mushroom and lentil curry last night with onion bhajis and chapatis. My first time at making chapatis, DEAD easy and cheap as owt to make so will be bearing them in mind as a nice cheap alternative to naan. Darling boyfriend LOVED them.

It's my birthday today so I've splurged on a cake for the office and I'm being taken out for a pub lunch by my site manager so no need to think frugally today. Off camping tonight for the weekend with my folks too and they're providing all the food; free camping, free food...

In the words of Weezl... Good times

Spooky Shaz, I put mine on a silicone liner so they're easy to scoop up and just sprayed them instead of drizzling oil halfway through cooking! They're a bit squidgier than deep fried ones but the spice combo is sooo tasty.

The weather's turned rather sour here so plans to camp are put on hold til my parents get to Kelso and report back on the weather up there. So I might be storecupboard cooking this weekend after all!

hiya sunnygirl, perhaps you could share some of the meals and costings? Always inspiring to see what others are doing! pretty pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaassse?;)
One of the old favourites is good old spaghetti bolognese so I've definitely costed that out :D A lot of my cooking is about filling up 3 hungry boys & DH so the quantities may seem a lot to some ;)

    500g Long Spaghetti 29p
    454g Lean Steak Mince £1.99
3 Rashers Smoked Bacon (optional but tasty) 66p
    600g Jar Pasatta 69p
5 Large Grated Carrots (Bag of 12 is 69p) 30p
    1 Onion 5p
Tspn or so of dried basil (will be free when the basil grows more) 5p
    2 Cloves of garlic 6p
    Tspn Sugar 10p
    Salt & Pepper 2p

In total to make = £4.26 so 71p per person

I serve 6 every meal. It's always nice to know that I can feed my family for well under a fiver :rotfl: and for 2 more people! I'll sort some more out and post them later if anyone is interested. I love doing all the fiddly maths bit :o

Another favourite is Basic Pasta Bake

    500g Pasta Quills 50p
    2 Tins Tomatoes 66p
    3 Peppers 99p
    1 Onion 5p
    100g Grated Cheese 40p

Total of £2.60 which equals 43.5p per person :T

I often add whatever veg are lurking in the fridge that haven't already been made into a soup ;) as well. For more protein I throw a tin of tuna in sometimes as well.
