I'm still currently using crystal deodorant I have. Have had to get used to the fact that "natural" deodorants are just that - deodorants only and not anti-perspirants as well.

I could try the bicarb as deodorant and/or shampoo.

Actually - I suspect that one of the advantages of getting older is that maybe one doesnt actually NEED a deodorant anymore. I have a suspicion that they are now a bit superfluous to requirements - as I think that mid-life hormones have changed things a bit in that respect. I have a daily shower lass - dont worry about that! So - deodorants, as I understand it, only deal with the "smell" aspect anyway - and, if there isnt any smell anyways - then.....maybe (at least at my time of life:D) deodorant is perhaps just summat that manufacturers want us to spend our hard-earned cash on - rather than actually being a necessity IYSWIM.

Obviously things are different for younger people/those in hard physical jobs/etc..

...hmmm....another thought striking me....maybe theres less need for things like deodorant if ones tops are only made of natural fibres - rather than those artificial more "sweat-inducing" ones....?

I'm sure I read on here that someone used bicarb dusted under arms as a deodorant. DS2 reacts badly to many deodorants and this could be a good alternative. Was it on this thread I read it or anyone know if I've just dreamt it?

yes that is me... it is just a deodrant not an anti-p but it works and i could make my tops last a week if I needed to whereas pre-bicarb deod... I was going through 1-4 tops a day as I felt smelly :o

thanks for the tip re pasta/rice at asda.. will whizz over :)

Re the crystal deodorant. Theres 2 types - the crystal rock on the one hand and a crystal that has been shaped into a stick and put in a conventional roll-on deodorant type container.

I've currently got the container type and I bought that from what I call a grain shop - ie a genuine health food shop (not one of the "chain" ones that sell loadsa supplements). I expect the "chain" "health food shops" sell them as well though.

If memory serves me aright - it cost about £5 odd - but I say that - because it was some time back I bought it. It lasts AGES.

    Hi ISOM

Ooh well....you dont want to read any of the articles that I've come across in the past then about conventional deodorants "migrating" through the system and helping to explain why theres so much breast cancer around these days then........ Thought I read somewheres that female doctors usually wont use the conventional ones for that reason....

Anyways - I found a link for one type of crystal one:

    http://www.thecrystal.com/

Thats not the brand I use - but I dont suppose it matters. Mine is Pit Rock.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone have any idea where I can buy a pump action bodyspray from? I sweat quite a lot, and working in a school all day I get pretty smelly and I'm very aware of it. Even bathing/washing every day isn't helping - I've solved the deodrant problem (all be it the rather expensive deo-wipes from Asda which I use at break & lunchtime if I haven't time to come home) but I would feel so much better if I could use bodyspray as well, if only to help disguise the smell:o. A colleague has bad astma which is irritated by aresols, so me nipping to the loo to freshen up and spraying bodyspray is a no no. But I'm sick of smelling and loosing 15 minutes of my 45 minute lunch just travelling from home to school and back

    hi all!

am tempted today to go nettling to reproduce the chorizo, chickpea & nettle dish...

ever looking to further frugalise I wondered about replacing the chorizo, by far the priceyest ingredient....

shaz got me thinking when you mentioned about the smoked paprika, I wondered about a combination of that and asda smart price salami as a plausible substitute it's 38.6p per 100g rather than 78p per 100g of chorizo...

I'll keep you all posted if it works!:)
