of course I let you off...just surprised that mrs frugal is spending to have it chopped...wonder if this could be a money spinner!! hehe We are all mightily impressed by your budget ability, gorgeous baby (me more than most) and general geekyness....so nah! Now get you off and find that camera you young whipper snapper! My budget is reddressed you will be pleased to hear!
Wonder if the fruit cake could be made into muffins?
Ceridwen you may joke all you like...as weezl will verify I have a somewhat warped soh...canot imagine you in twinset and pearls though lol!!
Just making bacon and lentil soup...1/2 pack bacon; 2 cups lentils (i used yellow so you need to soak day before) ; 4 strips celery, 1 onion, 2 oxo cubes...fry onion and bacon and then do 1 1/2 pint stock and then simmer until lentils are soft...whiz and enjoy...I freeze mine which gets about 6 -8 portions depending on how generous you are...its yummy! Can also substiture potato for lentils although assume this is more expensive...Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0 -
great recipe ISOM
on the health and beauty front, fitting that into £1 per day...
one of these lasts 7 weeks (10ml a day for me, wash hair every day, 10ml every 2 days for Acetate monkey...) and is only 12p a bottle for 500ml.
one of these lasts same time and is 25p, so hair washing is a very cheap (dirt cheap) 5.2p per week.
We share one of these every 2 months too....
hope that doesn't sound gross, our pits are clean when we apply it!
now I just need to work out how much of this we use per day...

eew sharing deodorant is on a par with toothbrush sharing! Yeugh!! Now wheres the cute baby photo eh!! Would consider the smart price shampoo having used it and it not being as bad as I thought - not quite kerastase but 90% cheaper! Soup is still bubbling as lentils still not done!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Even in the darkest moments, love and hope are always possible.0

Hello everyone! :hello:
Found this thread again yesterday after always seeing it on the board last year. Just started to read a few of the recent pages and found it is such a lovely happy place to be
All the advice and recipes are great to read. Really good to see how to cook for less. After cutting back my spending in all areas it is still food I spend the most on. I have made to switch to dried pulses. I made a lovely butter bean and pearl barley and potato soup last week which is nice and creamy and made about 6 very generous portions using all storecupboard and fridge ingredients.
This makes me happy as I am using up things and I see it being for free as I'm not running to the shop to buy bits and pieces. Funny now how this makes me happier compared to what I used to think made me happy (endless spending which did not make me happy and has left me in big debt, still better late than never!)
Anyway I just wanted to say hello and try out some of the recipes I have found, plus the ones further back.
Also a special hello :hello:to Weezl for the thread and living in this way and to ISOM :hello:hello from the other thread for those of us in it for the long haul!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -
Wow you guys are brill, I can't believe how disaplined you are. We looked at our spend in the supermarkets over the past two years and have found we have spent a shocking (embaressing) 10k, although this does include some clothes, a TV and other household stuff that probably still only brings it down to about 7-8k which is scary stuff and could have been put towards my dream conservatory
I feel inspired to try and cut down the spend especially seeing as we have 7 chickens and an allotment, surely we can make it cheaperWell heres hoping, you never know by the end of the year I may be able to claim I to spend only 50p a day, although currently this appears doubtful :eek:

Laura am very envious of chooks...did try to persuade weezles that we could coop some on their garden (I dont have one and not allowed on allotment!) but didnt work....
Weezl for the new people coming why dont you explain about how you started the reduction - ie slow changes and not overnight! Am oing ok on my gb this month but still two weeks to go! Its the fun budget that went awry!
Soup finally done and yellow lentils took flipping ages to cook - about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs! Not sure if I'll use them when this gone as orange lentils so much quicker so uses less gas...soup tastes nice but alas does resemble sick!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! if you fancied a bit of luxury on the toiletries front now and again, might be worth checking out the freebies board. I have had some lovely free stuff off there now and again. Helps me feel pampered, if that type of thing floats your boat.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

Morning peeps
Weezl the fruitcake recipe looks familiar(is it the one by a famous flour company) if so its the one i use too i use chinese 5 spice instead of mixed spice as i can get a huge bag at the chinese grocers for less than half the price of a little jar
Made a gingerbread (sponge) last night and a banana and walnut loaf all from said recipe book i haven't baked for ages (since i started uni) and breadmaking is a bit lax too but i called at the egg ladys last night and got stuck in .........................i can't eat any though as i am dieting (put 3 st on due to the lack of exercise due to ill health)
I picked up a can of spinach yesterday but cannot find the recipe you use it in it would help if i could remember the name................
