Hello everyone,
I have just read through this thread, and am really happy to have found other people who are doing the same as me. I had to retire this year because of RA and my life needs to be much simpler. My family and friends think that i am giving my possessions away because i am about to disappear into the ether.
I was very interested to hear about other people hearing the hum in the background, I have this and it has been driving me insane. I have however found what it is. Several hundred yards away from my house are two of the green boxes that contain all the workings for the telephones and broadband connections. You cannot hear them much during the day, but at night they are really loud. I contacted my local Environmental Health agency, who have issued orders to Virgin under the Noise Pollution act. This may be what others of you are hearing, some of my neighbours are definately as affected as me. Many thanks for this thread.0 -
I've been following the fate of "Woolies" - slight little personal interest - as I had a Saturday job there as a teenager (not for long - as soon as they discovered how bad I was at maths they sacked me:rolleyes: ). I do wish all the best for the future to Woolworths employees - that things work out for them. It's such a High Street fixture that it will seem odd if they go.
I heard today that if Woollies go in our little town the shop will probably become an Iceland store or a Tesco Metro. Tesco already have a smallish store at the top end of the high street but were hoping to also buy out the OneStop shop a couple of years ago, a plan which failed because the Post Office is at the back of the store and it has to remain open as there is no other withing striking distance for non drivers. They could not remodel the store so gave up. At this rate everything will be a Tescos.0 -

Since I wrote about the hum I have discovered that a high voltage cable and a low voltage cable run underground within feet of this bungalow. The cables run to a sub station at the end of my garden, one each side of the dividing fence, from one end to the other of the plots. The low voltage cable is on my side. The HV runs parallel, about two or three feet away. I wouldn't be surprised if it is that I can hear and sleeping on the ground floor (bungalow) doesn't help. Thankfully it seldom keeps me awake for long.0 -
I have always been pretty good for throwing things away so I thought. I have moved house a lot which is a great way for me to evaluate stuff to see if i really want to wrap it and pack it and move it and unwrap it again :-). However, recently it has become more likely that i will move abroad in the next 2 yrs. My OH who lives in Canada, having moved there 6yrs ago, has obviouslly been through the sorting out what to move himself. I decided to start the process by sorting through the loft and the garage. His advice was to sort for smiles, only keep momentoes that make you smile. I thought I didnt have much clutter but so far 3 car loads have left the building, msotly to charity shops and to a lovely lady who ebays for charities.
On the work front I have my own business, supporting people with mental health needs to maintain their own tenancies. I ahve noticed how much this has started to drain me, and it;s not really where my passion lies anymore, so I've just started a reconfiguration that should allow me to put a manager in and take a much lower salary, but give me time to persue other things.

"Sorting for smiles" - well - that doesnt sound like a bad rule of thumb for what mementoes to keep:D
I've got myself an incentive to do another clearout on the loft - a lot went last time - but SilverCharming informs me that I can store surplus food in a loft - and I'm hoping to up the amount of food I can grow - so here goes again - and I'll be clearing a bit more.0 -

'sorting for smiles'...............I like that idea. Maybe when I start to clear out again after the Christmas debris I can use that as a guideline..........there are still mementos of my Dads -was looking at them this morning strangely enough - but they didn't make me smile............don't know why. Maybe it was the fact that it was his war time stuff and I never knew him then. I just may send them to the museum of the town where I used to live..........at least then I'll know they're safe and can be looked at should I feel the need.
Strange how this longing to cling to things can start to loosen a bit. Never thought it would.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

I feel so guilty now after reading this I have so much stuff, despite moving house 3 times in the past 8 yrs. You have spurned me on to do something about it, this can be my new year resolution, to declutter my life. I have so many things drawing the children did about 10 yrs ago. Birthday cards/xmas coming out of my ears, really must do something about it. We have been renovating our old cottage for the past 5 1/2 years so I suppose I have a valid excuse.;)

Does everyone know that today is Buy Nothing Day? Not that there is much of the day left!We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0

Hi folks, been over inspecting the Nonny Mouse site, so not been on here quite as much.
I've had a bit of a lightbulb moment recently. I did the Flylady scheme pretty religiously about 3 years ago and it got to the stage where the house was clean and tidy and took very little looking after. However, me being me, I've gradually let it slip, and a couple of attempts recently to get back into Flying haven't worked too well. I have eventually realised that I have to go back to basics and do it from square 1 again. Bummer! But I've been at it less than a week and the house is better and I'm happier, so it will be worth it. Should hopefully all be sorted by Christmas and then I can do my few minutes a day again to keep on top of things.
Need to sort out my Christmas card list tonight.
Hope everyone is ok out there in Simplificationland.0
