Simplifying Life - Mark II

Justamum - you're right there sadly and too many people do just that.
Well, my simplifying came to a stand still today - meeting that started at 9.30am & went on and on and on .............got back around 1.30pm...........oldest lad came back from wherever he'd been but at least he's kept his music quiet........maybe I had a bit of a 'face' on........as is known when I think I'm going to be ear bashed by something todays generation call music:mad:
Just heard that Mums had a job to breathe and doctor was called out and she's been given antibiotics...................fingers crossed and hoping they work. Times like this I wish I'd organised myself better in case I suddenly have to drop everything and rush down there.
At the moment I'm 75% there so not too bad I suppose. Least I'm getting there.
Just need to get a few little extras to finish it all off. - I keep saying that but haven't got them yet..............oh dear me...............Mary

I must admit I'm baffled by what's popular today. As I'm sure my parents were baffled by what was around in my youth. Though I never did like the electronic "music" (and punk was just dire). I really preferred music from before my time - 50s and 60s, and really got into the rock 'n' roll revival. Now I find I'm beginning to enjoy music from even before the rock'n'roll era - I really like Andy Williams and Perry Como (I've always loved Dino though). Love the modern "crooners" - Michael Buble is great, and love the classical (male) singers.
Most of today's music is instantly forgettable - not something you can hum to yourself as there doesn't seem to be a tune!0 -
justamum - my Dad was a Dance Band musician just before WW2 and we were brought up with big band music, ballads -know the sort, songs that had actual words that could be understood.
When rock 'n roll started Dad loved that just as much and had a broad taste in all kinds of music but what he'd make of todays 'sound' I've no idea.
Makes me feel a bit ancient sometimes.
I never was a 'punk' fan.........loved Pink Flloyd, Queen and all that.........and Pink Flloyd are as good now as ever.........that has to say something for their musical talents.
I sometimes wonder where it will all end up what with the music, text speak and will there be a time I wonder when no-one ever actually speaks to anyone anymore (as in by phone or person to person) and its all done on the internet........shopping, chatting etc.
I do hope not.............maybe things will turn a full circle -or more or less.Mary

Hello all !
Better let you know I'm ok and in the land of the living so to speak.
Been trying to simplify life in the form of getting christmas ready for santa run next weekend................also been given super elm topped old coffee table that we want to swap for our old one.
A while back I concocted a sort of storage area for OH's abundance of LP's......row of bricks each end to the height of LP's, planks of wood across the top - bit of a 'that'll do' job. Well, turns out our coffee table we're using at the minute will be perfect for the job...........put it in situ, slide the LP's underneath and job done ! But the weather hasn't been right for carting bricks outside, OH hasn't been 100% so its been put off. Now hes saying 'we'll do it tomorrow' (how many times have I heard that or even said it myself ?) But I'm determined it will get done. We're away next Friday off to do Santa drop and call on Mum on the way - thats another thing that needs checking on. We ordered her a bird feeder on a stand to go outside her bedroom window -give her something to watch and she loves the birds and squirrels. So far we haven't even unpacked it to check its all ok !! Very remiss of both of us so thats another 'tomorrow' job...............(do hope tomorrow comes !!)
Once Santa drop is done I'll be able to see some floor space once more and know exactly how much rubbish I've accumulated !! Dread to think really !
So, if I'm not about, I'm trying really hard to sort things out...........and it doesn't help when our oldest boy does silly things like hiding bottle of beer down the drive to sneak in when his mates pop round  so he needs an eye keeping on him all the time.
OH is getting little 'treats' for christmas and seems to think my little den is the ideal place to store them  As if there's not enough in here already !!
Oh well, such is life and I'm saying not too much about it as one lot is a tin or chocolates.....................lol
Youngest lad is progressing well..........at school, home and with us. Took him to the church fair on Thursday night and he got a few bits and pieces for his mum, step dad and little sisters for christmas............nice to know he thought about them.
On a 'down' though..............one of the lads that lived with us some years back is going through severe depression and I mean really really severe - feels he's lost everything -marriage broke up, lost his home, parents don''t care etc. So thats been a phone call a day to try and get him to stop thinking that life is so negative.................still, thats a whole different story.
Good to see you all and thanks for being concerned:jMary

Good to hear from you Mary. I'm so sorry about the lad who is feeling so depressed. You will give him something positive to think about with your phone calls ((((hugs))))

Mary, sending lots of positive vibes your way, I so admire you for giving so much to your 'lads' :T
I'm checking back in this morning because I have seriously fallen off the simplifying wagon for a while and need to get back on pronto! I live in a tiny house and I have so much decluttering still to do.
I'm using the library rather than buy books now, so that's one major progress. I'm concentrating on sorting through kitchen cupboards and stock checking this weekend but from next week I set myself a target of one black bag a day (rubbish, charity shop or other donation) mostly from the bedroom where all my crafts and art stuff is languishing under piles of 'I dont know what', I'd like to get most of it done before christmas, even if the charity shop bags just sit in the porch until the new year.
I've spent a lot of time over this last couple of years collecting recipes and planning to try out all sorts of new ones, but I've decided that I'm simplifying my eating habits too. I eat a wide range of fairly simple meals (meat/fish/vegetarian) that I'm very happy with and I've decided to stick to those and maybe just try a new recipe occasionally if there's something that fits the bill, ie - ideally no more than 5 ingredients and I must have 4 of them already in the cupboardI have a good variety in my storecupboard so not as limiting as it seems.
I hope you're all well and keeping warm this morning, very hard frost last night, the the garden is white but the sun is shining... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

rosieben - good to see you. Sounds like you're getting really organised - hanging my head in shame here.
Oh well, least now sorted out the new coffee table so thats in place...........he got measurements wrong on the old one and it won't fit in the space to slide his LP's underneath so thats currently up on its end in the kitchen  I did think of putting it in the garage for now and next spring finding somewhere in the garden for it.............its 6ft long and very rustic looking -would lend itself to having a few potted plants on it and give a bit of height in the garden. OH agrees...........just a matter now of getting it from kitchen to garage .................as he's already gone round with Henry (avoiding my computer room -too much in the way of boxes and bags for christmas !) and now gone to the pub for his sunday lunchtime pint or several......................lol
I've finished off mums christmas card and now need to find a verse to put inside it. Normally make one up myself but brains gone blank ! No news from depressed young lad so I'm hoping that means good news.
Just realised I've two books upstairs I got for teenage grandchildren for christmas  Have to get them wrapped.
Hoping computer stays on long enough to at least get a poem for mum - had the dreaded blue screen a little while back and was cut off in my prime !! Not being very techno I shan't have a clue what to do if it packs up...........so if I don't show you'll know it's because of computer hiccups.Mary
