Do you not have any equity in the property you own and refer to in this thread? http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=14167849#post14167849

Wouldn't that involve them actually paying off their debts? Clearly not what they were asking about.
    Conjugating the verb 'to be":
-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

It all depends which country you are moving to.

If the Credit Card company can they will attempt to track you down. They may use the services of a DCA in the country that you move to, although the legality of doing so may be questionable.

If you are only going to France or Ireland, there is nothing stopping a DCA from the UK jumping on a cheap flight for the day to have a word with you.

If you really want to avoid them, perhaps the Amazon rain forest may hold some suitable hiding places ;)

Well, the airport programmes on television want us to think that people get arrested :) although I bet the debt has to be quite large.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

Chances are they'd write the debt off if they could jot find you abroad.

Even if they did trace you and didn't have a foreign business connections there is very little they could do.

If you owned your own property here they could place a charging order on it and would therefore get the funds from the proceeds of the sale if/when that happened. A charging order also prevents you from re-mortgaging. If the debt was large enough and a charging order was placed they could (but probably wouldnt) enforce a sale on the property.

Ultimately if you sat tight and refused to pay and had no assetts and could live without the credit once a CCJ had been placed there's very little, if anything, they can do.
    Best Regards,

In this instance of having no assets and not being concerned about getting credit for 6 years, then I think bankruptcy would be a better option. At least the debts are written off and there is no chance of any undesirables tracking you down.

The chances are that the debt will get sold off to a DCA and they will go to all sorts of lengths to get repayment even if they have to take a trip abroad.
