Bring back the old blue three wheeler meschersmidtt invalid carriages and see how many people want blue badges then. I gaurantee you the numbers would plummet overnight.
as people who have mobility issues can get exempt car tax they should issue discs with the car tax for disabled that make it clear and illegal to display then this would be a none issue as anyone without these should not park there if you do get points on your licence simple as. this will stop most

But do you not agree that there would be a drop in the take up on disability if the only advantage was a blue three wheeler? Yes I agree if it was made an offence to park in disabled bays without displaying a valid authority be it a blue badge or licence disk it would almost eliminate the problem overnight, unfortunately that is not the case at present and these companies issue carefully worded and formatted invoices and represent them as fines.

the fines are a side issue, if people stuck to the rules then the companies could not issue them so only have themselves to blame, i have no pity on them, maybe clamping should come back pay up or do not get you shopping home. many ways to stop people doing it. as for the three wheelers they were death traps so would never work, plus i use motorised wheelchair when i go shopping and need to lower ramp to get it out so no chance of doing that in 3 wheeler lol my wheelchair may have better engine than them old things

A great (probably the greater) cohort of DDs are in their own car, paid for themselves, no additional benefits whatsoever, so where would the car come from? The current scheme enables many people who have limited mobility to remain independent and actually have a bit of life. And whilst it may seem that LAs provide spaces, trust me, some are removing more than they offer. Supermarkets are better at this.

I've said it before - it is not easy to get a badge, you have to be struggling considerably, so I'm not sure why you would want to deprive people of it. I am aware that there is abuse - but there are strict rules with the badge that some people choose to ignore. You can't make the legit ones suffer because of that. I'm sure it annoys me more than you when lazy people without a disc hog the spaces.

Personally, I think it would be a shame to legally enforce these spaces, but it does seem like you can't rely upon the good will and humanity of many in our community.

I'm able bodied and I actually prefer to park away from the store - that way you are less likely to get clouted by a numpty who can't get near enough to the door;)

What is the criteria, Blakespops? Do you have to be on DA?

You may be entitled to a free tax disc if you're a disabled person who gets the higher rate of the mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, War Pensioners Mobility Supplement or have an invalid carriage.

    hope that helps

Not a side issue at all but the main topic of the op, they are not fines they are invoices presented/marketed as fines, quite a different thing.

It seems to me that some on here think that others have to forego their rights in order to accomodate the rights of the disabled car drivers, unfortunately for them that is not the case.

not forego their rights as drivers but if the land owner has designated the parking areas as disabled only that is their right and that over rides that of selfish drivers too lazy or ignorant to obay the hospitality of the landowner.

So in a car park with about 10 "able bodied" spaces and 3 disabled bays it is fair to do this? So it is more likely that 3 disabled people will be looking to park before 1 able bodied person/ disabled person (when disabled bays are all full)?

Oh my....... sorry but you have raised another point to argue..

Should disabled people be allowed to park and mingle with the able bodied?;)

I'm kidding OK??? I know what you meant... I just thought I'd get all pedantic and stroppy before someone else did. I'm in that mood today. Dunno why.

My Mum has a blue badge but can't drive - I take her everywhere she wants to go. I, however, am able-bodied, so am not exempt from paying car tax, but use the spaces when taking Mum shopping. Since she doesn't have a car, would the above mean that she couldn't have a blue badge then?

MrsBartolozzi, perhaps the driver who was waiting in the car was the disabled person. If so he wouldn't be entitled to use the disabled bay unless he intended to get out of the car as well, so not being selfish but following the correct procedure.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
